The LAMY studio elegantly shows just how close design and art can be. This premium writing instrument seamlessly fuses its individual elements with its convex cylindrical form while simultaneously foregoing all unnecessary embellishments. The propeller-shaped, seemingly twisted clip counters the objective elegance of the LAMY studio with an innovative design accent.

This 2021 special edition has a deep and dark green/grey body, almost black in appearance, with subtle sparkles. black forest evokes the imagery and feeling of sitting and writing next to a shimmering creek in the dense forest of southwestern Germany. It is equipped with a high gloss chrome grip and clip, and an interchangeable silver steel nib. This fountain pen comes with a blue LAMY ink cartridge and a Z27 converter for use with bottled ink so you can get started writing right away.

Note: To ensure quality performance, LAMY tests their pens as a final step in manufacturing. If you happen to see any residual blue ink, rest assured that this is normal.

Nice Pens

I was pleasantly surprised that the EF nibs have a finer, narrower line compared to the Safari pen. It avoids a screw-on top like most mid-range price pens. It holds ink well, so it quickly transfers ink and writes when taking notes. Overall, it is a great pen and nicely manufactured.

Extra Fine is smooth as silk

This is a very elegant and reliable fountain pen. The color is a deep, dark green that seems to be a chameleon. In some lighting, it appears to be dark green with some subtle sparkle and other times, looks black.

The extra fine nib is smooth as silk and performs flawlessly on any paper. The cap snap posts securely without having to worry about it coming off as long as you push it on until you hear it snap like it does when replacing the cap to close the pen.

This was quite a challenge to try to find matching ink to use with it because of the color shifting that occurs. I tried Dark Forest and it was close but no cigar and everyone knows that close only counts in horseshoes, darts and hand grenades! However after searching far and wide, I found that The Wet Pen's Gasworks Park ink was an exact match. This ink is a very deep, dark green with a touch of used motor oil black that has the bonus of a slight antique copper sheen to it when it dries.

Beautiful pen

The finish on the body of the pen is a little more slick and polished than my other Studio, but it helps to make the lovely color of the pen shine through. The included adaptor went straight to work with the new green ink to match the new green pen. Lamy continues to not dissapoint.

Black Forest is beautiful

I love this pen so much. I have safaris, Al- stars a 2k and I love the studio. I really love the color, it's a green/grey with shimmer. It's a great color, it's not black at all. The studio is heavier and feels incredible to hold and write with.

There's definitely a sweet spot for writing with the Lamy Studio. Hopefully, there's nothing wrong with my nib, but it definitively feels a little scratchy/more feedback on the right side compared to the left. When poster, you can hear it wiggle a little bit, but it stays firm on.

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above. 

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck. 

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

How often do I need to clean my fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. 

Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

My pen won’t write! What do I do? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

First things first... make sure you have ink in the pen! Be sure that the ink cartridge or converter is seated properly in the pen, and that you aren't out of ink.

We always recommend you give your pen a good cleaning first, using our Goulet Pen Flush, or a drop of dish soap in some water. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first.

If that still doesn't work, try priming the feed. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.
