Noodler's Purple and other great products

I had my first experience ordering from your company. My partner Jon and very good friend Jennifer have raved about your products for years. I love fountain pens but had stopped using them years ago because I couldn't find good ones at a reasonable price in the shops near me. Recently I decided to take their advice and shop online with you. I asked for their favorite recommendations for a pen and after picking a TWSBI Eco Purple as an economical first-time pen with piston, I looked at all of your purple inks. My friend Jennifer loves Noodler, and Jon has tried it and found it a very good ink, and I found two colors I liked. This was one. I'm sure I will be trying others and may be back to get another pen for the blue/green shades I also admire. This combination of pen and ink were a stellar match! I was worried that the pen would be too chunky, as I prefer a slender writing implement, but it is perfect- easy to handle- and the inks write beautifully- great flow, lovely colors. I love to write with this pen and these inks. I marked water resistance as medium because I don't really know how to gauge that.

NOT your care bear purple. A dramatic Ink for the sake of writing joy, with a dash of practicality

I first used this in my Noodler's Ahab flex and my jaw dropped at its rich complex mystique!!! Beautiful plum light strokes, deep dark dramatic strokes made for one **** piece of writing that put my handwriting skills to shame! Of course, being used in a flex pen did it huge favors, and the flex nib's generous pools of ink bled right through to the other side of the paper. But After putting it into my lamy alstar knockoff, it still performed beautifully. This ink is not watery like many shading inks are but it still flowed very well. Next to something like Noodler's Apache Sunset, golden brown, navajo turquoise or bad blue heron, it is rather viscous in comparison and it forms little beads of ink on the page that form the gorgeous dark strokes in writing, which is an appropriate way to make a deeper color of ink shade in beautiful ways (I think anyways), but because of those beads, it seems to dry a bit slowly. Hence I would not recommend it for left handed writers (unless you are a very very slow left handed writer). Bad blue heron soaked right into my cheap feather friendly journal paper, whereas this purple ink took more than double the time when I did a side by side comparison. I imagine that on ink resistant papers (like Rhodia), it would take a bit longer, albeit leave beautiful dramatic strokes of purple intense sexiness on its pages. It flowed great, had no drying issues in my pens. I love this color and would buy a 4.5 oz if it was offered. Noodler's purple is warmer in hue, darker and deeper in tone than displayed on the site, which doesnt really do its shading capabilities justice.

My perfect shade of purple!

A great, everyday purple that is easy on the eye and professional looking. Looks great in my Pelikan Demonstrator fountain pen, where I can see the ink.

Noodler's Purple

This is a lovely, rich, true purple. I'm not much of a purple ink person but I wanted it for a new William Hannah notebook that has lime green suede interior and a chili red leather exterior. This is my first noodler's ink, btw. Dries quickly in an X-Fine Sailor pen on 120g paper.

An everyday purple

I received this bottle as a gift and have been using it as a daily writing ink in a Pilot Vanishing Point (Fine Nib). I've been consistently impressed with both its behavior and color. Flow is immediate and consistent, with enough ink going down to provide a noticeable degree of shading, which is not something I see as typical with Noodler's and Fine nibbed pens. The color is purple, not violet, and is dark enough to be easily read. Drying time varies considerably, ranging up to never for a particularly wet stroke, but I've come to expect that from Noodler's. I'm running a purple theme (it's an institutional brand color) and this has been a fantastic choice of ink for note taking.

FAQs about Bottled Ink

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink.

What is shading, sheening, or shimmering ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Shading - A common (and often desired) result of a fountain pen ink pooling in certain parts of a letter when writing, so that the color and saturation of the ink appears different within a single letter or word. This characteristic cannot be achieved with ballpoint or rollerball pens and is a very appealing aspect of fountain pen use for those particularly drawn to all the pretty ink colors.

Sheen - Characteristic of a fountain pen ink where when ink pools another color can be seen on top of the ink, especially when looked at in different light angles using certain paper types. There is no way to guarantee an ink will sheen, but using a larger nib on a pen will help obtain sheening results in your writing.

Shimmering - Fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in.

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size and shimmering ink. All the ink we sell is safe for use in fountain pens.

You can learn more in our blog: How to Write with Shimmering Ink.

My ink smells funny, is it safe to use? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Generally yes! Ink does not smell good- it usually has a chemical smell, along with other scents such as sulfur, rubber, chemicals or even paint. However, as long as you’re not seeing anything floating in the ink, it should be safe to use.

It’s cold and my ink froze; is it safe to use? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes, frozen ink will not hurt your pen (after it’s thawed of course!) The issue with ink freezing is primarily a concern because certain glass bottles could break as the water-based ink expands, and then you’d have a mess!

What is your return policy for bottled ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We do not accept returns for ink that has been used. Otherwise, we accept returns on unused ink products for up to 30 days from purchase. You can read all our Return Policies here.

To initiate a return, please submit a request at the Return Portal. Our Customer Care team might reach out to you for more information.
