Very pretty color but apparently true to all organics studio colors, I never fail to get them all over my hands for some reason lol they are a pain to wash off, and seem to be very heavily saturated or maybe just dry? inks, some of my pens have trouble with them and start skipping. But it’s a beautiful color I absolutely adore it I just have to watch out what pens I use it in!
The third picture on the listing (the one with the drip and smear tests) is the most accurate representation of what this ink looks like. It's a dark teal color with a pretty red sheen. The sheen is not as evident on more absorbent paper, but that's how it is with most sheens anyway. I meant to put it in a broad pen so I could see the shading better, but I mixed up my inks and accidentally filled an EF pen with it. To my surprise, the color+sheen is still present and lovely. However, I have a feeling this ink would look near-black in an ink with a heavier flow. Not a problem if that's what you dig, but if you're looking for a medium teal shown in most of the pictures here, you may be disappointed.

I was looking for a medium blue ink for everyday note taking and journal entry. I was also looking for an ink that flowed well and was quick drying but with low to no bleeding on various journal papers. I obtained a sample of OS Alanine and gave it try. Except for spilling most of the sample on my hands (my fault trying to do too many things at once), the ink performed better than I hoped. The color was darker than what was displayed on line but I was glad for that. I have a few peacock/turquoise blue inks and a few navy/dark blue inks and the Alanine gaves me a blue color just right. I was using a Lamy Safari pen with an EF nib. The flow was great, the drying was very good and no bleed through. My only complaint was my clumsiness. I like the ink so much, I ordered the bottle size.
Considering I am just starting out with fountain pens and just bought a Pilot Metropolitan, I figured it was worth it to try one of the random ink samples as well with my order. I am really liking this ink so far, it has a great color. I have noticed that on my thinner spiral notebook paper, the ink appears more two-tone: cyan and dries to show a little almost maroon color. So far, I have only noticed this effect on the one type of paper, it appears the same color as shown here on my day planner's thicker paper and other papers that I have tried. The one thing that I wanted to comment on which very easily may be due to my inexperience with fountain pens, but it seems to me that the nib dries fairly quickly when uncapped and resting. I still have habits of leaving my open pen laying on my notebook in between writing from using ballpoints and rollerballs, so I am hesitant to blame the Metropolitan nib or the ink.With the Metropolitan medium nib, it writes well. It has good flow, aside from when I leave the pen uncapped for a few (3-4) minutes without writing. As I mentioned, it looks very nice with the two-tone color on my notebook paper, and still looks nice on my other papers. It seems to dry fairly quickly (within 15-20 seconds), though I'm not sure where this would lie on a scale of dry time.All-in-all, I'm just excited to have a new fountain pen and to be getting into this hobby!

How much writing can I do with 2ml of ink?
It really depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our Ink samples, or one good fill with a piston-filling pen. How much writing depends on you more than anything else, so we recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
What is shading, sheening, or shimmering ink?
Shading - A common (and often desired) result of a fountain pen ink pooling in certain parts of a letter when writing, so that the color and saturation of the ink appears different within a single letter or word. This characteristic cannot be achieved with ballpoint or rollerball pens and is a very appealing aspect of fountain pen use for those particularly drawn to all the pretty ink colors.
Sheen - Characteristic of a fountain pen ink where when ink pools another color can be seen on top of the ink, especially when looked at in different light angles using certain paper types. There is no way to guarantee an ink will sheen, but using a larger nib on a pen will help obtain sheening results in your writing.
Shimmering - Fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in.
Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens?
Yes! Shimmering ink is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size and shimmering ink. All the ink we sell is safe for use in fountain pens.
