Introducing the Sailor TUZU Adjust fountain pen, designed for all writing styles and habits. With two innovative features, this pen dispels the belief that fountain pens are complex and difficult to use. Experience effortless writing and comfort like never before.

The "Rotating Nib Feature" lets you customize the nib and grip rotation to your liking, while the "Natural Fit Grip" ensures a comfortable writing experience for all finger sizes and positions. With 10-degree rotation options, you can find the perfect hand position while maintaining proper nib alignment on paper. Additionally, the rounded grip has two grooves for easy and comfortable holding. The TUZU Adjust is versatile in accommodating left-handed writers, steep angles, and various gripping habits.

This sustainable fountain pen is made from translucent navy blue recycled polycarbonate. Each pen comes with a stainless steel nib and Sailor's slide-type sealing feature in the snap cap to prevent ink from drying out.

Packaged with a Sailor proprietary converter and two ink cartridges, this pen is ready to bring joy to writing for a long time to come.

Translucent Navy is a special edition TUZU color for 2024 and will be produced in limited quantities.

Tuzu, A Solution in Search of a Problem

I bought the new Sailor Tuzu in translucent blue because I was curious about the adjustable nib. Thoughts... the nib (in medium) is a smooth, and beautiful writer and puts down a very fine line... almost extra fine but without any trace of scratchiness.
The adjustable nib is novel but I found that no adjustment is the best adjustment... a solution in search of a problem.
The downside is that the pen, although well engineered, looks and feels cheap. The barrel and cap are a hard, thin plastic, with plain finials that make the pen look 'disposable.' Even the packaging looks cheap.
I probably will not repeat... much preferring my Safaris, and TWSBIs.

Sailor pen

Nice and light, but ink flow was non-existent. Will be returning it.

Great Entry Level Sailor

That's a great pen for its price. Really enjoy using mine. The nib might feel a bit stiff, but when you get used to it, it is enjoyable. Grip is very comfortable to my taste. Got mine in broad but be aware that this broad is like fine on some European pens. Overall, that's a very nice pen.

Great Entry Level/Ink Tester

Great pen for brand-new users, people looking to step up from a Preppy for their EDC, or someone looking to try out their backlog of ink samples. As the video and other reviews have noted, the nib runs a littler smaller than you might expect; the Broad for the Tuzu lays down a similar amount of ink to the Medium #2 Kaweco nib. If you want to display some of the shimmer/shading of the ink, don't be afraid to go Broad.

A great pen for new users and those seeking an easy on the hand EDC

It’s great that Sailor has designed a new pen from the ground-up. It is one of the comfiest pens to use from an ergonomic perspective, particularly for new users and those looking to use it for long writing sessions. The nib is extremely highly quality and writes well from any angle without issue, including reverse! The pen feels like it’s high quality and well designed. My only criticism is the excellent nib tends to run finer than described. For instance, the medium feels like a fine or ever an extra fine. Definitely buy the broad if you prefer something juicier!

FAQs about Fountain Pens

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

Check out more info on these filling mechanisms including a video on how to fill each one on our blog.

How do I clean a fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

How often do I need to clean my fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors.

Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

My pen won’t write! What do I do? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

First things first... make sure you have ink in the pen! Be sure that the ink cartridge or converter is seated properly in the pen, and that you aren't out of ink.

We always recommend you give your pen a good cleaning first, using our Goulet Pen Flush, or a drop of dish soap in some water. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first.

If that still doesn't work, try priming the feed. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.

If it’s still not working after that, please reach out to us so we can help!
