Too wet and bold for me

I loved the color but it made my fine nib write like a heavy medium and bled through a bit. Seems too have way too much flow. Compared to the Sailor ink and the Organic Studios it's very "fuzzy". This is in my Leuchtturm1917 which is supposed to be more weighty than moleskin to preven bleed-through... I wouldn't dare use less expensive paper with this ink.

Good water resistance, dries quick, nice color

Hi I used this ink on JinHao 301 with a F nib. Where the Goulet pictures show the ink as really deep blue, my experience was the color was lighter and less navy. I actually like the color in person than the sample picture. For some reason the ink was stubborn and would stay on the vial's walls for quite some time, and it was also very very bubbly even when using a syringe. Maybe the sample batch wasn't great. But with the Jinhao pen it performs pretty well. I'm pretty likely to buy a bottle if I dont find another blue ink I love more. This ink is more likely to feather on cheap paper btw. There's a tiny bit of feathering on Moleskin paper

Not Worth It

I bought a sample of this ink and filled up my Kaweco Sport Skyline Mint F with it. It was on the dry side, and when writing with my Kaweco, produced a color similar to Pilot Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo, which was a lot paler than what I was expecting, but attractive. It feathered slightly on copy paper. The real issue for me is that, when filling my pen, I got a little drop of this ink on the pale, mint-green barrel. I immediately wiped it off with a paper towel, but it left a stain. I soaked a paper towel in Goulet pen flush and used that to try and get it off, to no avail. I took 10 seconds to do a writing sample before flushing this danger juice right out and cleaning the whole pen. My pen is soaking in pen flush now, but the stain is not budging so far. If you are looking for an ink that will sink its claws in and stay, I guess this is it, but for me it wasn't worth ruining my pen for.

Glad I got the sample first

I was immediately going to buy the bottle based on the swatch. It's a little more muted than I thought. I probably won't be getting the bottle, but it's a nice smoky sample to have should I ever want to use a tiny bit.

FAQ about Ink Samples

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

Check out our blog post on How to Fill a Fountain Pen from an Ink Sample Vial.

How much writing can I do with 2ml of ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It really depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our Ink samples, or one good fill with a piston-filling pen. How much writing depends on you more than anything else, so we recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.

What is shading, sheening, or shimmering ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Shading - A common (and often desired) result of a fountain pen ink pooling in certain parts of a letter when writing, so that the color and saturation of the ink appears different within a single letter or word. This characteristic cannot be achieved with ballpoint or rollerball pens and is a very appealing aspect of fountain pen use for those particularly drawn to all the pretty ink colors.

Sheen - Characteristic of a fountain pen ink where when ink pools another color can be seen on top of the ink, especially when looked at in different light angles using certain paper types. There is no way to guarantee an ink will sheen, but using a larger nib on a pen will help obtain sheening results in your writing.

Shimmering - Fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in.

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size and shimmering ink. All the ink we sell is safe for use in fountain pens.
