It's the perfect size for my desk. The size allows me to use it as both a mouse pad and a writing surface. Love it.Unfortunately, the mat came folded inside a plastic wrap instead of rolled in tubing. That caused a permanent crease which will not go away. That's the only reason I gave it four stars and it's not any reflection on the quality of the product.

I take notes to organize my thoughts or clarify my understanding as I work through the day, and I initially questioned the value of a writing mat. Adding a writing mat has changed how I write during the day. I now tend to rip single sheets off rather than keep them attached to the notepad. Previously I'd keep them attached to the pad because writing with a single sheet on a desk can be a bit scratchy and the mat definitely changes that for the better. I enjoy the mat quite a lot, and although I question whether a cheaper solution exists, I definitely do not regret the purchase.

I wish it were larger to protect my table. I tend to spread out. using a a5 notebook properly with the forearm on the table for writing from the shoulder, there is not a lot of room for ink bottle, if I wish to do some dipping for ink use.
