True purple - too wet for me

This is a beautiful purple, it is exactly what I picture when I think, "purple". It is, for me, however, too wet. It seems to take a long time to dry and I smudged it horribly long after I thought it would be dry. I have only tried it with a medium nib, and that may be the problem, I tend toward fine and extra fine, but I think I will have the same result. As a lefty, especially, this is too wet for me.

I think I've found my purple!!

Purple is my jam. I LOVE purple, so of course, in my short journey through Fountain Pen World, I've sampled some purples, but they just haven't made my heart sing like this Magenta Violet. I received a sample in the Vibrant Sample pack, and it was love at first sight. It's a fairly wet ink and I do get some very light shading with my medium nibbed pen. I have it inked up in my Kaweco Sport - Medium. I'd like to try it in one of my fine nib pens as soon as I run one dry. :)

A Very Vibrant Violet

Several months ago after placing an order with the Goulet Pen Company, I received my shipment with the cute thank-you note on the receipt using the most beautiful purple ink. Upon reading the title of the ink, I saw it was De Atramentis Magenta Violet. It should be noted that I REALLY dislike purple ink but if there was ever one I would buy THIS would be it! I chose to go with an ink sample to start with, as I didn't want to buy an entire bottle just to hate it. Well now that I have tried it, I will definitely be purchasing a bottle! The ink, technically speaking, doesn't have a huge shading palate but does flow quite wet and even. It is what I would call a good, standard ink. Highly recommended! 5 out of 5 stars.

Fantastic Violet ink!

I purchased think ink to replace my Private Reserve - Tanzanite, which I had some issues with. The stability of this ink and the flow are significantly better with a similar color and better shading. I highly recommend trying this ink!

Pleasant surprise

I ordered a sample of this to try since I didn't have any purple shades in my ink stash. I liked it more than I thought I would! The ink is quite smooth in both my Lamy Safari EF and in my Nemosine Singularity EF. The color was bold enough for daily use with a shade other than black, which was my desire.

FAQ about Ink Samples

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

Check out our blog post on How to Fill a Fountain Pen from an Ink Sample Vial.

How much writing can I do with 2ml of ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It really depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our Ink samples, or one good fill with a piston-filling pen. How much writing depends on you more than anything else, so we recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.

What is shading, sheening, or shimmering ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Shading - A common (and often desired) result of a fountain pen ink pooling in certain parts of a letter when writing, so that the color and saturation of the ink appears different within a single letter or word. This characteristic cannot be achieved with ballpoint or rollerball pens and is a very appealing aspect of fountain pen use for those particularly drawn to all the pretty ink colors.

Sheen - Characteristic of a fountain pen ink where when ink pools another color can be seen on top of the ink, especially when looked at in different light angles using certain paper types. There is no way to guarantee an ink will sheen, but using a larger nib on a pen will help obtain sheening results in your writing.

Shimmering - Fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in.

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size and shimmering ink. All the ink we sell is safe for use in fountain pens.

You can learn more in our blog: How to Write with Shimmering Ink.
