Visconti's latest launch draws inspiration from one of Van Gogh's most treasured and iconic paintings, the Japonaiserie Oiran. Van Gogh based this painting on a woodcut by the Japanese artist Kesai Eisen.

The Visconti ‘Oiran’ collection is made from natural resin, brought to life by blue, purple, red and green hues to recreate Van Gogh’s technique, emotion and mood portrayed in this remarkable painting. The meticulous selection of resins and their color mix is one of the major innovations introduced by Visconti and makes each and every Visconti Van Gogh pen unique.

Each fountain pen nib is made from steel with a vermeil plating and engraved with Van Gogh's signature. A converter is included with each pen, and it is presented in a gift box with a bookmark and deep purple ink to match the pen.

The Japonaiserie Oiran was painted by the Dutch artist in 1887. Japanese printmaking was one of Van Gogh's main sources of inspiration and he became an enthusiastic collector. The prints acted as a catalyst: they taught him a new way of looking at the world. He saw the prints as an artistic example and thought they were equal to the great masterpieces of Western art history. Once again the artist relies on colors to convey his feelings and in this case he chooses the contrast between strokes of purple, green, blue and red paint.

We do our best to photograph the pens to show how they will appear in person, but due to the nature of the material, expect some variation in the pattern from what you see here.

Wonderful Service!

This was one of the best online shopping experiences that we have ever had. The pen arrived carefully packed, with a candy pop and notes from Goulet. In an age of impersonal automated shopping, it was delightful to have such personal service!

Nothing like the photos

Thought it looked gorgeous from the photos but when I received it, the acrylic was dull, lifeless and just unattractive. There was no contrast between the colors and just looked "muddy", for lack of a better term. I returned it immediately and found a Van Gogh: Starry Nights that delivers much better in the looks department.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
