The LAMY AL-star is the aluminum big brother to the LAMY safari. The smoky grey translucent triangular grip section makes it great for those starting out who have no idea how to hold a fountain pen, but it's used and loved by fountain pen lovers of all levels of experience.
This warm champagne gold aluminum AL-Star comes with an interchangeable silver steel nib, which can be easily swapped out for another size. This fountain pen comes with a blue LAMY ink cartridge so you can get started writing right away. If you'd like to use bottled fountain pen ink, you can also purchase a LAMY Z28 converter.
Note: To ensure quality performance, LAMY tests their pens as a final step in manufacturing. If you happen to see any residual blue ink, rest assured that this is normal.

I got this pen both for every day use and for a special project and it's lovely to write with. The ink flow is smooth and it's comfortable to hold.

I'm sold on Lamy pens and I like Lamy inks (although the inks aren't my only or most favorite). I've never bought a Lamy pen with which I've had the slightest disappointment.
So the color of this pen is absolutely gorgeous. I was scared it would be more yellow champagne than rose gold, but it's an absolutely beautiful in-between. The first nib, the one my pen originally came with, was less than satisfactory unfortunately. I emailed customer support and they were kind enough to send me a new one. I requested that someone test out the replacement nib just to make sure I wouldn't have to reach out for another one, and my replacement arrived in a timely manner with a very gracious note that the nib had been tested and wrote perfectly - and it does! I cannot recommend Goulet enough!
