Apollo, Zeus and Aphrodite are the protagonists of the brand new Visconti 'Mirage Mythos' fountain pen collection. Greek mythology teaches that the Olympian gods are immortal beings, governing the life and death of human beings. These three personalities that Visconti selected represent three different supernatural forces that inspired this new Mythos Collection.

This brown resin fountain pen with bronze shading is named after Apollo, the god of the arts, music, poetry and science. He is the son of Zeus and the symbols that identify him are, among others, the Sun, the lyre, the bow and arrow.

The cap elegantly closes with a magnetic twist closure, and is accented by gold-plated trim. The center ring is engraved with the inscription, MYTHOS, and a V to emulate a stylized Mount Olympus. The brass grip section has a soft brushed satin finish.

The pen is completed with a large #6 steel nib with a yellow gold vermeil finish, made by Schmidt in Germany. A converter is included, and it also accepts standard international short cartridges.

We do our best to photograph the pens to show how they will appear in person, but due to the nature of the material, there will be some variation in the pattern seen here. This adds an element of uniqueness to the pen, with no two patterns being exactly the same. We cannot honor special requests.

Entry into the world of Visconti

Lovely pen. Feels great in the hand, magnetic closure and posting works just right, fine nib writes well enough (could use a little but of 12000 grit smoothing, but not a big deal).

A LOVELY little Pen!

Been wanting this one for a while. When I received it I was NOT disappointed! Pretty smooth nib, BEAUTIFUL resin that looks quite like wood-grain. Very comfortable to hold, as well. Tend to write with this one un-posted, as the magnetic posting seems a little too loose for my liking. But the pen is wonderful in every other way.

Visconti Mirage Mythos Fountain Pen - Apollo

The pen arrived quickly after I ordered it - another case of Goulet Pens fast shipping. This is my 9th Visconti pen and is the best by far. The finish is fantastic, the flutes on the barrel make for a solid grip and lie up perfectly with the flutes on the cap. The nib is silky smooth (like all Visconti nibs) and the gold color is a perfect compliment to the brown pen color and pen furniture. All in all, a great pen sold by a great service oriented company. As an aside, my initial dealing with Goulet Pens was rocky, but Brian's devotion to customer service in subsequent dealings and willingness to help (even without a purchase being involved) won me over.

Very classy, affordable Visconti

I have had this pen for several months now, I was given time to use it for a while before writing my review. First of all, as usual, Goulet Pens service is top-notch, the pen and the other contents in the package arrived in pristine condition. The Mirage Mythos, is a relatively affordable pen, for being a Visconti. The design is very classy and has traces of Greco-Roman influences (Doric columns, maybe?). The contrast between the brown of the barrel and the bronze of the section of the nib is very well coordinated to produce a harmonious presentation. Ergonomically, the pen accommodates perfectly to my hand and my fingers do not slip on the section. The medium nib ( which is made in Germany) works very well, I have not experienced ink skipping. The nib produces wet writing, which is something to consider if you don't appreciate that. All in all a very competitive and elegant pen for the price.

Great pen, minor annoyance

I like the pen a lot. The section is comfortable and it looks great. This is quite the statement piece without being gaudy. The weight and balance are spot on. The feel is half-refined precision writing instrument and half-cheap attempt at luxury styling. It's a bit of whiplash, but that's also what this pen seems to be for Visconti. I'm pretty sure it will grow on me as I use it more. The flow is nice and wet and the Medium is a true Western Medium in size. One minor annoyance is that the cap will only fit on in 3 positions and one of those positions is with the clip down. I always put my clip directly up so it's not trying to rotate the pen and it's also not rubbing against my hand. If I could change one thing about the design, it would be this. The magnetic capping mechanism works well. It's much better than the Pineider Avatar I have. The locking nubs and body taper seem to improve the performance of the magnet. My only other point is that I wish Goulet sold the My Pen end customizers. I would get at set and put my initials on the back end.

FAQs about Fountain Pens

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

How do I clean a fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

How often do I need to clean my fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors.

Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

My pen won’t write! What do I do? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

First things first... make sure you have ink in the pen! Be sure that the ink cartridge or converter is seated properly in the pen, and that you aren't out of ink.

We always recommend you give your pen a good cleaning first, using our Goulet Pen Flush, or a drop of dish soap in some water. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first.

If that still doesn't work, try priming the feed. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.

If it’s still not working after that, please reach out to us so we can help!
