Apollo, Zeus and Aphrodite are the protagonists of the brand new Visconti 'Mirage Mythos' fountain pen collection. Greek mythology teaches that the Olympian gods are immortal beings, governing the life and death of human beings. These three personalities that Visconti selected represent three different supernatural forces that inspired this new Mythos Collection.

This blue resin fountain pen with bronze shading is named after Zeus, the king of the gods and ruler of Mount Olympus, god of the sky, lightning and atmospheric phenomena. The thunderbolt is his symbol for excellence.

The cap elegantly closes with a magnetic twist closure, and is accented by gold-plated trim. The center ring is engraved with the inscription, MYTHOS, and a V to emulate a stylized Mount Olympus. The brass grip section has a soft brushed satin finish.

The pen is completed with a large #6 steel nib with a yellow gold vermeil finish, made by Schmidt in Germany. A converter is included, and it also accepts standard international short cartridges.

We do our best to photograph the pens to show how they will appear in person, but due to the nature of the material, there will be some variation in the pattern seen here. This adds an element of uniqueness to the pen, with no two patterns being exactly the same. We cannot honor special requests.

great pen

I am very pleased with this pen, it is the size I really enjoy, not too skinny or large, just right. The closure is very unique and flows along two indentations and closes with a snap and stays that way until you use it again. The nib seems a little broader than a medium, but was smooth and flowed well right out of the box. The navy blue with brown swirls is understated and classy upon closer inspection. The craftsmanship appears to be up to Visconti’s standards and at a very reasonable price point. What a find.

Just fabulous

I recently bought this pen with a broad nib. I've used a fair number of pens and more expensive Visconti pens as well as less expensive from other brands. I already written about 10 pages of A4 using it with Herbin Eclat De Saphir Ink. This is an amazing pen! It skates across the paper like its glass and writes flawlessly OUT OF THE BOX. No tuning no nothing just fill and write. I've had much more trouble with much more expensive pens. I was concerned that the feed might not keep up with the needs of a broad nib but it has been perfect. As for the pen itself, I don't think the pictures do it justice. This is a beautiful pen. The resin has deep color and color variance thats very nice. The gold accents just add to the look. The center band says Mythos with a stylized Visconti 'V' pattern around it. The finial has a raised edge and a Visconti 'V'. The clip is spring loaded as is the case on most Visconti pens. One of the most interesting parts is the magnetic cap, its done in such a way that the groves in the body ALWAYS line up with the cap. The Section had a nice feel and is also gold plated. I didn't think this pen would replace my Visconti Shadow LE (silver) but its not even a competition with this pen as my new primary pen. Its not a heavy pen but has a nice weight and feels good in the hand. I don't post my pens, never have, I suppose you could but... I've used it for about a week now. Its a cartridge converter and I've used other in it, mainly Herbin and Diamine Inks on Clairfontaine, Rhodia and Hobonichi paper . This pen has never hard started, skipped, or burped, it just continues to just skate across the page making writing almost effortless. If you are looking for a gift for yourself or someone else, click the add to cart button and buy this pen. I have no affiliation with Goulet pens but this is one of the most amazing pens I've used in years! Visconti hit it out of the park with this one.

What have I done?!

This is my first 'premium' fountain pen. You ever step back and think ,' what have I done?!' I took the plunge nearly a year ago and purchased a TWSBI 580 with which I've been greatly pleased. Up until that point, I believed a pen was a pen once you reached a certain price point. Notably, once you stepped away from the rollerball/ballpoint realm and into the world of decent, reputable fountain pens. I bought the Mythos Zeus (M) because it was beautiful, not because I expected a life changing user experience. Boy, was I wrong! It's night and day! Don't get me wrong, the TWSBI is still a great pen. But, this is truly an whole other level of craftsmanship. I've stuck with bold and medium nibs because I'm left handed and 'push' when I write, so fine and extra fine nibs just have way too much feedback for my taste, even on premium paper. This pen writes better on crappy paper than any of my other pens write on premium paper. So, I'm tempted to try the fine nib on my next purchase! Why not?! Gotta buy all three at some point anyways! Also, want to say thank you to the Goulet family! The information you provide regularly through your videos, blogs, podcasts has made this journey so very enjoyable!

Visconti Mirage Mythos Zeus

The Visconti Mythos Zeus I received from Goulet Pen Company is a lucious,smooth-writing machine. It is plenty wet without being a gusher. The magnetic cap functions very well; it is so handy for taking notes; just pop the cap off/on so quickly. I'm glad I decided to get this pen;it is so different from my usual 'utilitarian' choices in pens. The understated Italian style is very tasteful. The writing experience makes it a total win! Goulet&Co. makes it a win/win. Thanks again,GPC!

Solid pen at a great price

A very nice pen for its price point. The nib writes wet and smooth. The pen feels good in the hands and well balanced. I can see this being an all day writer. If I had one complaint that would be the feed/nib section coming loose when either putting on or taking off the converter. The converter is tight and if you twist it off or on you could end up loosening the feed/nib as it screws into the grip section. It's and easy fix, but a little annoying. Otherwise it's a fine pen.

FAQs about Fountain Pens

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

Check out more info on these filling mechanisms including a video on how to fill each one on our blog.

How do I clean a fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

How often do I need to clean my fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors.

Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

My pen won’t write! What do I do? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

First things first... make sure you have ink in the pen! Be sure that the ink cartridge or converter is seated properly in the pen, and that you aren't out of ink.

We always recommend you give your pen a good cleaning first, using our Goulet Pen Flush, or a drop of dish soap in some water. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first.

If that still doesn't work, try priming the feed. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.

If it’s still not working after that, please reach out to us so we can help!
