I have a beautiful cover that works well on 5.5 by 8 or A5 notebooks in this format. I've placed one of these in my cover for journaling. All these points work well:Color is greatBlank is what I preferSlim but good number of pagesShows off inks well, including sheen (and probably shimmer -- I haven't tried that yet)Resistant to bleed-throughDoesn't featherThere's just one aspect that is not quite right. The page edges near the margin don't open as close to the binding as I would like. In fact, the farther in I go, the larger the amount of page that is in the fold. I will try carefully opening the notebook every few pages before I put it in my journal cover next time and see if I can get it to open more fully. Until then, I am enjoying using a sheening ink in my journal.

These Clairefontaine notebooks are great.

I bought this Clairefontaine after trying out all of the other fountain pen friendly notebooks out there on the market. I am a huge fan of the Iroshizuku inks. Which as you know goes down very wet. That being said, I cannot deal with ghosting, feathering, bleed through. These are my pet peeves! I have been a fountain pen user for many years and was hard pressed to find a notebook that I needed. This Clairefontaine is a dream come true for someone like me. I love to doodles, draw, writer, journal and whatever comes to mind is this notebook. I love the fact that I can use both pages and never deal with the above mentioned pet peeves. This is a wonderful note taking book to use with fountain pens. An added plus is the sheen that I am able to see with my inks. I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

The paper is smooth as glass, a pleasure to write on, especially with a gel pen - no friction at all. The spine and cover boards are sturdy enough to be manhandled, and the book opens pretty flat for table top writing. The paper is thick enough to be opaque, although I don't know if Sharpies or alcohol markers would bleed through since I don't use them. It's fine for regular gel pens which I use for both writing and quick sketches.

I recently took an online handwriting course and this was one of the required materials. I LOVE it. My handwriting is neat and even. There are a few rukse to writing on this paper, which you can find online. Fountain pen ink does have a tendency to smear, but once it dries, which isnt terribly long, 30 seconds i should say, the ink is rich and vibrant.
