Bottom Shelf: This pen has been gently used, but is otherwise in great shape. While every effort to clean these pens is made, you might see residual ink or water, as they are not brand new. All Bottom Shelf sales are final.
This oversized Sailor King of Pens fountain pen features a gorgeous ebonite cap, barrel and grip section. The SYOKEI is a marvel of the “Chirashi (scattering)” technique, including both pink and yellow flecks of ebonite scattered across the beige colored base of the pen. Each one is additionally crowned with the exquisite and highly coveted King of Pen size 21K solid gold Sailor Naginata Togi nib.
This year's SYOKEI draws its hues from "Tsurebiki," a masterful "Ukiyoe (woodblock print)" by the renowned Harunobu Suzuki. This print captures a couple in love, and is known for the technique used to make it which includes mixing multiple colors of chalk to create texture and a feeling of magic in the piece. Reminiscent of this technique, the deliberate layering of colored ebonite creates an intricate texture and similar effect, echoing Suzuki’s unique method of incorporating chalk for neutral colors.
Beyond its design, the SYOKEI's Naginata Togi KOP nib is a testament to meticulous craftsmanship. Modeled after the Naginata (a Japanese long sword), its elongated tip and larger pen point are a product of precise grinding and special polishing. This unique nib facilitates a wide range of writing angles, ensuring a smooth calligraphy style, even under light pressure.
The Sailor Naginata Togi Ebonite SYOKEI pen is limited to just 500 pens and each one is engraved with a unique serial number on the back of the cap. The beautiful gift box includes the pen, a 50mL bottle of black Sailor ink, a gold trim converter, a cleaning cloth, two black ink cartridges, and a North America Sailor warranty card.
This special Naginata Togi nib allows you to write with a thin line when holding the pen vertically upright, or with a thicker line when holding the pen at a lower writing angle. In this way it’s similar to a Sailor Zoom nib. It also is ground so that it writes thicker on the cross stroke and thinner on the down stroke, like an Architect nib. It’s really a blend of Zoom and Architect, which is quite unique and not available from any other pen manufacturer.
