Wearingeul Robinson Crusoe: Ink Review

Wearingeul Robinson Crusoe fountain pen ink has some extraordinary shading. This ink was inspired by the colors of the ocean that Robinson encountered when he became a castaway. Ink Review 

Supplies Used:

• LAMY AL-star with medium steel nib
• Rhodia No. 16 dot pad, 80g white paper
• Tomoé River 52 gsm white paper
• Leuchtturm1917 80g notebook

Smear Test (Dry Time):

• 5~10 seconds – Robinson Crusoe dried fairly quickly. The swab was mostly dry in five seconds and completely dry after ten. This would be a great ink to use for note-taking and journaling.

Drip Test (Water Resistance):

• Low – We found that Robinson Crusoe was not water resistant at all. Anywhere water touched the dye components, it acted as an eraser, leaving no ink behind.

Saturation:

• Medium~Low – When layered or allowed to pool, this ink has a deep, robin egg blue color with blue and green shading. Robinson Crusoe also has tiny bits of sheen. However, with the medium LAMY nib, we found it was a light turquoise hue without much saturation. A wetter nib that lays down more ink can bring out deeper tones in this color.

Ease of Cleaning:

• High – This ink isn't terribly saturated or water resistant, so it is easy to flush through your pen and leave little to no traces of ink.

Shading:

• Medium-High – We found this ink has a good amount of shading, which is most apparent on lines that overlap. It goes from a light blue to a sea green when layered over itself.

Flow:

• Dry~Medium  – Robinson Crusoe is definitely more dry writing than some other inks we carry, which is great for left-handed writers or quickly taken notes.

 Packaging and Aesthetics:

• This comes packaged in a 30ml square glass bottle with a black cap. It has a wide enough mouth that most pens should be able to fill directly from the bottle.

Summary:

Overall, Wearingeul Robinson Crusoe is a gorgeous light ocean blue color with sea green tones that behaves well and dries quickly when layered. It is definitely worth a look! There is no shortage of blue and teal blue inks, but this one has some extra pizazz, so I recommend checking it out!
