Sailor Yurameku Seki: Ink Review

Sailor Yurameku Seki fountain pen ink is part of the Yurameku ink line changes hues and tints depending on the passage of time and the paper used. Ranging anywhere from a greenish-gray to a pale gray to a purple-gray-green, this ink stays subtle, but is never quite the same. Read more about this very interesting and different ink!

Ink Review 

Supplies Used:

• LAMY AL-star with medium steel nib
• Rhodia No. 16 dot pad, 80g white paper
• Tomoé River 52 gsm white paper
• Leuchtturm1917 80g notebook

Smear Test (Dry Time):

• 10 Seconds – Like other inks in the Yurameku line, this ink dries pretty quickly in all nib sizes. This would be good for on-the-go writing.

Drip Test (Water Resistance):

• Low – This is not a waterproof ink. When water drips on it, the ink disappears entirely. We don't recommend using it if it could get wet. 

Saturation:

• High – You can see the difference between swabs 1 and 3- the purple and green tints show up the more ink you put on the page. This ink with a stub nib would be a great way to add some pizzazz to your writing! Play around with what paper you use, because you will get different hues on different paper, and that's part of the fun!

Ease of Cleaning:

• High – Cleaning this ink from the pen was not hard at all.

Shading:

• Medium – With medium nibs and larger, expect to see a good amount of shading. On smaller nib sizes the shading might be a bit harder to see, but it's going to show up some no matter what nib size you use.

Flow:

• Dry – this ink was pretty dry, even for the Sailor line. 

 Packaging and Aesthetics:

• The Sailor Yurameku bottle is a nice square bottle, with a label that wraps around one side, so you can see the ink color or name from different angles. The opening is large enough to fill directly from the bottle.

Summary:

In short, this is a really cool ink! The fact that different hues show up on Leuchtturm1917 vs Rhodia vs Tomoe River paper is just fun! The dryness while writing isn't much of a deterrent, but if you are using a smaller nib size, such as an extra fine, you might not find it as pleasing a writing experience as I did with a medium nib. If you are a person who wants consistency in color on every letter and line, this is not the ink for you, but if you like a bit of "choose your own adventure" with an ink color, I recommend Sailor Yurameku Seki!
