Ink Review
Supplies Used:
- LAMY AL-star with medium steel nib
- Rhodia No. 16 dot pad, 80g white paper
- Tomoé River 52 gsm white paper
- Leuchtturm1917 80g notebook
Smear Test (Dry Time):
- 5 seconds – This dries super quick! Great for quick notes or left handed writing this ink holds up well to all paper types we tested it on.
Drip Test (Water Resistance):
- Low – This ink doesn't hold up well to water. It does leave behind a faint pink line but it is not very legible.
Saturation:
- Low – While you can layer the ink to get a more saturated color, Fuji is a 'fluffy' light purple with blue tones.
Ease of Cleaning:
- High – This ink is perfectly suited for easy cleaning, it washes away readily and doesn't cause any staining that we noticed. It was easy to clean and left no trace when using a different color after.
Shading:
- High – While light purple this ink can shift to a dusky blue with slight pink hues, it lives up to its dual shading descriptor.
Flow:
- Medium-Low – We find this ink to be pretty dry writing. If you're going to be using a finer nib size you'll likely feel the paper fibers more than when using other wetter writing inks.
Packaging and Aesthetics:
- Sailor Manyo inks come in a classy square glass bottle with black faceted cap. Filling most pens is easy to do and it fits nicely into most desk drawers.

Summary:
Overall, Sailor Manyo Fuji is a unique purple with soft tones that shift to blue and hints of pink and was a dry but fun ink to use. If you need something a bit darker this may not quite fit the bill but this ink is very whimsical and makes for a great dream journal color or letter writing.
This color is available in 50ml bottles as well as our 2ml ink samples.
