Ink Review
Supplies Used:
- Kakimori Steel Dip nib and Sakura wood nib holder
- Rhodia No. 16 dot pad, 80g white paper
- Tomoé River 52 gsm white paper
- Leuchtturm1917 80g notebook
Smear Test (Dry Time):
- 5-10 seconds – River of Fire dries relatively quickly, which is odd for such a saturated ink. It will take a bit longer with large nibs but overall the ink is perfect for the quick note-taker.
Drip Test (Water Resistance):
- Low – No water resistance at all on this ink, so be careful in the rain or near your morning coffee. The diluted ink does make a nice light teal color as well.
Saturation:
- High – Very little difference can be seen between swabs 1, 2, and 3 so there is a lot of saturation here. With the right paper that heavy dye load means a nice dark red sheen.
Ease of Cleaning:
- Medium – We find most non-shimmering Robert Oster inks easy to clean. This one may be a bit tougher due to the heavy dye saturation but it's nowhere close to difficult.
Shading:
- Low – On most papers you don't see much shading at all but on the Leuchtturm1917 paper there was a touch more
Flow:
- High – River of Fire isn't a fire hose but it's nice flow will keep any pen moving along nicely.
Packaging and Aesthetics:
