Ink Review
Supplies Used:
- LAMY safari with medium steel nib
- Rhodia No. 16 dot pad, 80g white paper
- Tomoé River 52 gsm white paper
- Leuchtturm1917 80g notebook
Smear Test (Dry Time):
- 20-25 seconds –It doesn't take too terribly long to dry, as it's under 30 seconds, but it won't be completely dry in 20 seconds, especially if you're using it in a wet-writing pen.
Drip Test (Water Resistance):
- Low – This ink is not meant to get wet, as it won't be very legible, if at all if it gets wet.
Saturation:
- High – Practically everywhere this ink goes down it shows up to be a nice true blue color that doesn't vary much.
Ease of Cleaning:
- Easy – Seeing as this isn't a water-resistant/pigmented ink, there is no hassle when cleaning your pens other than the fact that your hands may end up with some blue on them.
Shading:
- Low – Since the saturation is very high from this ink, it goes down as the same color everywhere, and going back over it doesn't change the appearance too much other than making it slightly darker.
Flow:
- Wet – The flow is pretty wet with Kon-peki, as it's a smooth-flowing ink that comes out looking nice a colorful with every stroke.
Packaging and Aesthetics:
- Pack of 6 proprietary Pilot cartridges or a 50ml glass bottle packaged in a nice box.
- Large opening on the ink bottle and a conical dip in the bottom of the bottle that allow for easy filling.

Summary:
Pilot Iroshizuku Kon-peki is a brilliant blue ink that is sure to please the writer on any paper. Although it doesn't have much shading ability, it's a true blue with a little extra character to it. It can sheen on the right paper, as it shows some purpley-red colors when it does. This is certainly one to try if you are a fan of spectacular inks, especially if you love rich blue colors as well!
