Ink Review
Supplies Used:
- LAMY AL-star with medium steel nib
- Rhodia No. 16 dot pad, 80g white paper
- Tomoé River 52 gsm white paper
- Leuchtturm1917 80g notebook
Smear Test (Dry Time):
- 30+ seconds – Like the other high sheen inks from Organics Studios, there is a significant dye load that means a much longer dry time. The ink will also smear well past 30 seconds so pay close attention if you have sweaty hands!
Drip Test (Water Resistance):
- Low – It doesn't have any water resistance but the ink dilutes beautifully and can definitely be used to create some lovely water color washes.
Saturation:
- High – Ink doesn't really get more saturated than this! The super-high dye component leads to a very intense dark coloration and that vivid red sheen you're going to love.
Ease of Cleaning:
- Low – It's not particularly difficult to clean but it does take more effort than with a traditional ink. Do not let this ink dry out in your pen or you will be rinsing for quite some time!
Shading:
- Low – Super high saturation means you get little shading in the true green/blue color of the ink but you do get the appearance of shading with the dark spots having a dark hue and mild red sheen (paper depending)

Packaging and Aesthetics:
- This 55ml bottle is plastic with a very large opening that makes it easy to fill your pen.
Summary:
With a dark rich color and distinct red sheen, Walden Pond doesn't disappoint. It's about as "feature packed" as a modern high-sheen ink can get and you'll see the effects on almost any paper with most nibs. While sheen isn't guaranteed, the deep blue green color is enough to have us coming back for more. We hope you love it too!
