Ferris Wheel Press Lady Rose: Ink Review

Ferris Wheel Press Lady Rose is part of the Gourmet Summer collection, presented in a pastel pink, it is reminiscent of the light hues of a summer sunrise. Curious? Check out our impressions below!

Ink Review 

Supplies Used:

• LAMY AL-star with medium steel nib
• Rhodia No. 16 dot pad, 80g white paper
• Tomoé River 52 gsm white paper
• Leuchtturm1917 80g notebook

Smear Test (Dry Time):

• ~10 seconds – This is fairly quick drying, we experienced very little smearing at 10 seconds in, this is great for left handed writing and quick notes.

Drip Test (Water Resistance):

• Low – As Lady Rose is pretty light to begin with, it only leaves behind a wisp of color when water hits it, we may not suggest this as a color for on the go but it could be useful for a faint highlight in water color/washes.

Saturation:

• Low –  This ink is definitely on the softer side and while there is slight shading it does not have much saturation unless it is allowed to pool like in our ink splatter photo.

Ease of Cleaning:

• High – Lady Rose is very well behaved and cleans out readily as it is not overly saturated.

Shading:

• Low-Medium – Because this is a softer color in normal writing you can see a bit of variation but overall it is still fairly light. 

Flow:

• Low-Medium – We find that this is a bit more dry writing like most Ferris Wheel Press inks, so while not incredibly dry you will feel the paper fibers a bit more with this.

 Packaging and Aesthetics:

• Ferris Wheel Press ink bottles and their packaging are a thing of beauty. Designed to resemble a pocket-watch the glass bottle features custom art work with a signature hexagonal brass cap. The outer box has the aesthetics of vintage perfume packaging, too. The neck is narrow so using an ink syringe may help to get the best fill.

Summary:

Overall, Lady Rose is a subtle, soft, and perfectly calming fountain pen ink. With its remarkably detailed packaging to unique shade of quick drying summery pink, this isn't one to miss out on.
