Visconti is pleased to present the latest addition to the Mythos collection: Athena.

Greek mythology teaches that the Olympian gods are immortal beings, governing the life and death of human beings. This year we celebrate the goddess Athena, who in ancient Greece was associated with wisdom, warfare and handicraft, but who later, since the Italian Renaissance, became an international symbol of wisdom, the arts and classical learning.

The Oxford Companion to Classical Literature tells us that In Homer's epic works Athena's most common epithet is "Glaukopis" that is "bright-eyed" or "with gleaming eyes", which has also been interpreted to mean blue-eyed or grayish blue-eyed, the colors of the sea and wise and alert like an owl.

This pen is a perfect inspiration for artists and writers who can channel this muse as they enjoy expressing themselves with this beautiful sea blue Mythos, a color which itself symbolizes serenity, inspiration and wisdom.

This new color joins the others in the collection Zeus, Apollo, and Aphrodite.

The cap elegantly closes with a magnetic twist closure, and is accented by gold-plated trim. The center ring is engraved with the inscription, MYTHOS, and a V to emulate a stylized Mount Olympus. The brass grip section has a soft brushed satin finish.

The pen is completed with a large #6 steel nib with a yellow gold vermeil finish, made by Schmidt in Germany. A converter is included, and it also accepts standard international short cartridges.

We do our best to photograph the pens to show how they will appear in person, but due to the nature of the material, there will be some variation in the pattern seen here. This adds an element of uniqueness to the pen, with no two patterns being exactly the same. We cannot honor special requests.

Gorgeous Pen, Smooth Writer

Pen is just as beautiful in person (if not more so). Writes very smoothly (and quite wet) with the paired bottled ink I use (Pilot Iroshizuku Ama-Iro).

Beautiful and smooth

I love this pen! It is gorgeous to look at. Reminds me of a tranquil turquoise sea and golden beaches. Peace and rest. It writes smoothly with no skipping and a relatively wet nib. I ordered the medium and it is a robust medium. Perfect for Journaling. Note that the nib screws on. I managed to untwist it when filling the cartridge converter. Fixed by screwing the nib back in!

First Fountain Pen - First Rate Experience!

This is my first fountain pen! I picked it up with some Diamine Majestic Blue ink and it writes much smoother and wetter than any of my ballpoint pens. I got it in fine, but the Schmidt nib they put on it makes it write almost like a medium! At first, the resin looked much less vibrant than the picture, but over the last few months, the copper and light blue swirls have really started to pop. I highly recommend this pen and am excited to continue my fountain pen journey! 8.5/10

Smooth 'n' Silky

This is my favorite pen and I have a lot of pens from many manufacturers. Its appearance is stunning: shades of turquoise/blue/copper/cream accented by satin finish gold-colored accents. But what really impresses me are the grip (the most comfortable of all my pens) and the nib, a super-smooth and wet fine. Visconti quality control was spot-on with my pen. I'm really glad I purchased this and highly recommend it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
