Under appreciated ink

I considered Edelstein Sapphire for some time, but was hesitant due to the mixed reviews. Finally, after being very impressed with the Edelstein Tanzanite ink, I decided to give it a try, to pair with a new Pelikan M805 I had bought. I was very pleasantly surprised. This is a great ink! Being lubricated, I knew the flow would be good. While color aesthetic is personal, to my eye it is beautiful. It goes on purple and over time sets to a blue/purple. It is a subtle, vibrant ink that is a bit of a chameleon. Is it purple? Is it blue? It changes in different light. It won't punch you in the face with over-the-top color, though. This is an ink that invites you to leisurely write without straining your eyes. I think many people feel let down because it is not super-saturated like some other inks, but it still manages to be eye catching and anything but boring. It shades nicely even with an Extra Fine nib, behaves impeccably on paper types ranging from cheap copy paper to fancy fountain pen paper. Dry time is quite good; as a lefty, this is a primary concern for me and I haven't had any smudges. Yes, the price is on the high end, and part of that is reflected in the fancy packaging, but I find the cost is justified for the overall quality and performance. This is an ink perfectly suited to a noble fountain pen. If you appreciate an enigmatic, subtle ink, this is one to try.

Please, do not buy this ink!

I remember days here in sunny California that the sky was this shade of blue. A brilliant clear deep blue with a tinge of violet, so I'm reminded of that lovely day each time I use this glorious ink. Goes on violet but dries blue. It's a lovely clear toned violet blue with zed muddiness to impair its clarity. The surprise was its shading qualities, a fabulous bonus. I was even more surprised that it had received none but 5 star reviews. Despite this, it seems it's never in stock when I'm in need. To be brutally honest, I'd say you probably shouldn't buy it... just read the negative reviews if you don't believe me. The list of complaints: it's got way too much violet, is not saturated enough, its completely lacking of water resistance and its price will likely leave you wanting, so don't waste your money. This dreadful fail of an ink, will ALWAYS be stock for me and the select few who appreciate its phenomenal clarity, shading attributes, free flowing quality and ease of cleaning from our fountain pens. Now that you've been warned off this abysmal ink, I truly thank you...for NOT buying.

Pelikan Edelstein Sapphire Ink

Beautiful! Really adds a distinctive touch to my writing; I had several people ask me about it! The bottle is just as elegant!

For the artist: Cornflower Blue

I can't see this in a pen -- it is a bit pale -- but I uses inks with brushs (which is why I love Ink Drop) and this is a gorgeous cornflower blue. Not even a little bit like a sapphire, but a deep flax color. NOTE: I rated for dip pens in the areas below. I gave the overall for the brush color!

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink. You can also refill an empty ink cartridge from bottled ink using an ink syringe.
