Great Black Ink

Love this ink and it might just be my new favorite black. I'm currently using it in a Majohn A2 and it writes and dries quick enough for me to jot in my planner.

I ordered two Eco's blue and a black, adding tour the clear and purple ones I acquired in the last few weeks. I like the weight of this pen as well as both the M and F nibs. The ink is a bit wet but it dries by the end of the line. I haven't had any smudging.

It isn't the darkest of black inks but it is a great quality ink. The dry time is decent if you use it for drawing or jotting down ideas. It doesn't bleed through a lot of different papers that I use too.

Ink or sludge?

I received a sample of Lamy Obsidian as a gift with all of the Lamy Crystal inks. I'm not sure if I got a bad sample, but this is the worst ink I've ever used. The most perplexing characteristic is that as I write, it leaves little strings of ink. The best way I can think to describe it is that it is similar to using a hot glue gun and the whispy bits when you pull the glue gun away. Lamy Blue-Black is my go-to everyday ink, so I am very disappointed by Obsidian. This is only the second sample I've tried in the pack (Beryl was fine), but I'm hesitant to try others. I think this is going to be a pain to clean out of my pen...

Lamy Obsidian

Trying black inks to settle on one standard black ink for work. I am testing this in a Pilot Kakuno clear with extra fine nib. The color is very saturated and dark exactly what I was looking for. The ink flows nicely, I like the results. I have three other black inks to test, but if I had to stop here I would be very happy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
