I really love this color, but...

I have had problems with this ink feathering and bleeding on many different papers. I can only recommend for high-grade papers such as Maruman, Tomoe River, Rhodia and other smooth surfaces. "Toothier" papers, even premium inkjet, will feather and possibly bleed if the paper is not very thick.Having said that, if you are using this on the right paper, it's gorgeous. Also fun to water it down a bit, as it becomes more purple when diluted!

Not one I will use but it performs well

I used this ink in a Monteverde Regatta Sport with a Fine nib on Midori Travelers Notebook paper. It performs well, comes out dry, doesn't smear, has no ghosting or feathering, and gives a very dark and saturated fine line. I have used several flashlights over this and cannot see any purple at all. It just looks black on the page. I didn't take any stars away from my rating because of that since the ink performs well on the paper (better than wetter inks I've used). It's just no different than a black ink with the pen/paper combo I'm using so I'm not likely to purchase more.

Diamine Eclipse: Extremely dark and very dry

Although it has a cool name and the idea of a violet-black ink is intriguing, Eclipse disappointed me for two reasons. First, it is very dark indeed, which can be a nice feature if you need an ink that will fly under the radar of Very Serious People at Work, but while I love deep, dark inks like Diamine Oxford Blue, I'm not very interested in colors that can't easily be distinguished from black unless you examine them closely under a bright light. Second, this is a very dry ink (I think it's the driest Diamine I've encountered) to the point that it makes my writing feel a bit draggy. It might be interesting with a very broad or flex nib (which I haven't tried yet) because it does show some significant shading on ink-resistant paper, but for a dark gray-violet I would instead recommend checking out Diamine Damson, which is more visibly colorful (while still being subdued) and has a wetter flow so it writes more smoothly.

Very Beautiful!! A soft black that draws you in by its purple.

An instant favorite. This may have purple, but this is for anyone IMO. It's like writing with a soft or even gentle black without being light on the darkness... But there's more... The deep purple brings life to the black with a relaxing yet awakening hue that is intriguing and assuring. Not the wettest ink so, but it does have excellent consistency IMO.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
