I put this ink in a Safari with a medium nib. I want to try it in one of my TWSBIs when it's time for a refill. The ink flows well, dries relatively quickly, & is distinctly red, not so dark that color cannot be distinguished from black. I was looking for a darker red that doesn't look like dried blood on the page. This one leans toward the purple, not rust end of the red spectrum, which is what I wanted. My first impressions are good, but I want to see in in a pen with a juicier nib.

A dark red tending toward purplish, quite wet, but not too dark to show some nice shading. In a Pelikan M600 fine, it is very free flowing!

This is a beautiful burgundy ink. The color is almost identical to the color of Monetverde Napa Burgundy, but is wetter than that ink. I've found that what distinguishes the color of burgundy inks is whether they shade toward red (more red dye) or purple (more blue dye.) This ink shades very slightly toward purple. If you like that color, you'll love this ink. However, I've found that mixing this ink 3:1 with Diamine Ancient Copper (i.e., 3 ml of Burgundy Royale with 1 ml of Ancient Copper) will slake the purple. I choose Ancient Copper because I thought the orange/brown would partially correct the blue in the Burgundy Royale, bringing it back toward red. The difference in color is subtle but real. Because Ancient Copper is a drier ink, the mixed ink will also be a bit drier than the Burgundy Royale. Burgundy Royale is a wet enough ink that the change is not a problem. Though not as expensive as some inks, at $0.40/ml this is not an inexpensive ink. That's why I could not give it the highest Value rating. I'm thrilled with the colour of this ink. Burgundy can often be 'muddied'; this is a clear and brilliant hue.
