What a Sparkle

This ink has a lovely gradient and is so versatile. An absolute gem of a colour that one uses when sketching. Intend on using it extensively even for writing.

Really beautiful and functional ink

Typical of other De Atramentis pigment inks, this is a touch dry, has a flat appearance without much shading, no feathering, and dries a little slow. It is also completely waterproof - not 'sort of water resistant but will become a little blurry'. It will hold up to even deliberate soaking and scrubbing. I really like the color. It's not very dark, nor is it very saturated, but on warm toned smooth paper it looks absolutely beautiful and very legible without being overly contrasty. I normally use it with a Lamy 1.1 stub nib on a Leuchtturm journal and it looks great. If you want a slightly wetter, more saturated and faster drying alternative, you might like Noodler's La Reine Mauve, but I prefer this.

Water resistance AND I love the color

I've already bought a full bottle of this and a new Sailor Compass to use with it. The color is a dusty purple, not terribly dark but defiantly dark enough to read easily. I love it but it might not be everyone's color.

Beautiful

I have enjoyed writing with this ink in my journal. Since I am new to fountain pens, I don't have much to go on. I bought it because of its waterproof status, if I want to draw and use watercolor on it. It has not been tested in that capacity, so take that into account in the below stats. It does work well for this lefty in her fine tip Platinum Preppy. It is not so definite as black, nor as jarring as blue. Rather, a bit of whimsy as I recall the day and dream for the future. Dries lighter that original wet color.

Definitely worth ordering a bottle

I got the De Atramentis Document Violet ink in a random sample a year or so ago, and i regret not having used it sooner. I opened the vial and filled my Cross Bailey with it , and it started right away. I have written on several papers with it and it is gorgeous. I also used it in my Platinum Preppy EF with no flow issues. Color is a nice purple, almost as nice as Noodler's Concord Grape, without the heavy staining . You still need to be diligent in keeping the pens clean and don't leave them lying around. If you're not going to write for a few days, clean and flush your pens. Maintenance is everything... Will be ordering a bottle when I get the restock notification...

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
