The Kaweco AL Sport is a pocket-sized fountain pen that when posted transforms into a full-sized pen that easily fits in your hand. The body and cap are aluminum with an anodized red colored finish. It comes with a stainless steel nib and an ink cartridge to get you started writing right away! It accepts short standard international cartridges. Kaweco converter and optional clip sold separately.

Note: This pen comes with an ink cartridge stored in the body. If it doesn’t fall right out, you can get it loose by giving the body a few solid taps on a hard surface.

Kaweco AL Sport

I've come to appreciate the great value of these small sized pens. Their aluminium bodies make them feel very sturdy as compared to the Kaweco Sports. Red is not a color I usually favor, but I just wanted to add one more Kaweco to my small collection. This pen writes great and fits perfectly in my hand. It's great every day carry pen.

I didn't expect to love it.

I didn't think this pen would be one of my favorites but it is. I had to buy one because everyone bragged about owning one so I wanted to be one of the cool kids and ordered. To my surprise I LOVE it, it's smooth, Sporty looking and is comfortable in my hand. Considering buying a second.

Beautiful and Efficient

This pen is so lightweight but feels really formidable. I feel like I could run this pen over and it would be just fine. Filled the cartridge with noodler's ink (heart of darkness) and it wrote beautifully right away. I found myself journaling more often because this pen is just so fun to write with! The octagonal cap fits perfectly in my hand when I write and it fits in my pocket or purse easily when closed. I'm debating getting another in a different color to keep in my purse at all times.

As advertised

Mediocre. My hand is small, but pen is too small for me. Extra fine nib though looking similar doesn't perform as well as my stainless Diplomat extra fine nib using the same ink. The smaller cartridge is too small if you write frequently and the refill cartridge is a pull out plunger prohibiting good use of interior body space and mandating a smaller volume capacity as opposed to screw type plungers. I would consider this a toy pen not for everyday prolific use. Not having owned a small ink capacity pen before I thought the shorter body might be a benefit, but my full size pens with clip carry just as well in my shirt pocket

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

For even more information about fountain pen cleaning, check out our Fountain Pen 101 video blog post.
