ENHANCEMENT OPTIONS

This Sailor Pro Gear Slim Mini fountain pen features a marbled red resin body and a white cap and finial, and is complemented by gold-plated accents. The flat top cap features the Sailor anchor logo inset into the top finial.

This pocket-sized compact fountain pen comes equipped with Sailor's legendary 14k yellow gold nib in medium fine. The cap screws open and close, and can be pushed to post securely onto the back of the barrel when writing.

Rencontre is French for "encounter" and the name follows suit: Gris Fer means "Iron Gray". This series embodies the encounter between acrylic resin which offers transparentness and durability, with the elegant texture of marble patterns, born of Sailor's original technique. The marble patterned barrel is the iconic characteristic of this series and is manufactured with the injection molding method we normally employ for resin parts. Only under limited conditions can two colors form a beautiful marble pattern without blending too much into each other. Marble forming techniques have existed, but it was always considered difficult to create marble patterns with acrylic resin.

The Professional Gear Slim Mini fountain pen comes with a Sailor proprietary cartridge. It can accept a Sailor Mini Ink converter (sold separately), but not the standard Sailor converter due to the short barrel length.

The size of these pens makes them particularly convenient to have on hand in a jacket pocket or classy clutch so collectors can bring this pen along wherever they wish and enjoy the touch of Rencontre by Sailor.

Mini's are astonishingly my Favorite Sailor

I this summer decided to buy a Mini. Ive actually started to pare down my FP collection I ink and carry to sailors. 1. They never leak 2. the ink cartridges and bottles are fascinating and endless - even when my colour scheme i'm i want to express changes its there for me. 3. sailors are the proper balance of heavy to light weight 4. QC for barrels and nibs never quits. 5. i got tired of the priority cartridge dance between brands so i simplified down to self filling or sailor. In a pinch during the if the pen runs dry a cartridge pulled out of the reusable white tri-holder can be done quickly without drawing attention to myself. I tend toward M-F and EF pens. The 21k of the 1911L and even the MF of the mini's are so nice, slight bounce, give, and and the pinnacle of " smooth- tooth".

yesterday i washed 10 pens. The three i didn't wash i kept are a Mini, a 1911 L & a vintage S American 1960's parker with an interesting steel fine nib.

Yikes i had 13 pens inked and had paired that downa month ago.

Back to the Mini. I love the Mini, I now have three. had been avoiding buying a Mini but astonishingly its my favorite. Its got a pleasant heft to it with its elegant brass threads. And its size is great see it posted in picture posted its longer than the unposted 1911 L or the unposted Vintage parker ( forgive me its another color mini not this stunning grey/ white).

The weight is same as 1911L!
Its very easy to carry almost anywhere.

The nib is perfect ( i now have 3).

The messy pile pic is 10 other pens washed. The picture 1 is all unposted. picture 2 Mini posted.

Did i mention the Mini is so cute too. The sailor logo on cap end is endearing .

FAQs about Fountain Pens

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

Check out more info on these filling mechanisms including a video on how to fill each one on our blog.

How do I clean a fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

How often do I need to clean my fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors.

Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

My pen won’t write! What do I do? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

First things first... make sure you have ink in the pen! Be sure that the ink cartridge or converter is seated properly in the pen, and that you aren't out of ink.

We always recommend you give your pen a good cleaning first, using our Goulet Pen Flush, or a drop of dish soap in some water. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first.

If that still doesn't work, try priming the feed. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.

If it’s still not working after that, please reach out to us so we can help!

What's your return policy? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

To initiate a return, please submit a request at the Return Portal. Our Customer Care team might reach out to you for more information.
