Pilot is pleased to announce the latest edition to our fountain pen collections: Iro-Utsushi. These dip pens are a combination of Pilot’s stainless-steel laser cut nibs with the body of a traditional dip pen. The stainless-steel nibs are also rust-free.

This black wooden dip pen comes equipped with a Pilot steel nib. Iro-Utsushi utilizes the same pen point in the nib that is found in other Pilot fountain pens, offering extreme durability and the nib won’t wear out over time and use like other common dip pens.

Pilot’s Iro-Utsushi dip pens are a fantastic way to change and test a variety of ink colors. Simply submerge the nib into your ink of choice up to the designated line that is engraved on the nib, remove the dip pen from the ink, and begin your smooth-writing experience. To switch colors, clean the nib with water and wipe it completely dry.

Nib Choices, Please!

I like this dip pen much better than the inconsistency of the JH glass pen I own. My issue with this dip pen is the lack of nib choices. When doing ink testing, a broader nib is preferable. A Japanese medium is too thin for that purpose, and having a broad tip option would be great. Pilot should also make the nibs swappable with these other nib tip options.

Perfect for ink sampling

I'm really impressed by this pen. I've finally found the pen to rule them all for sampling or a quick bit of color with fountain pen ink. The nib is Pilot-smooth and it just rinses clean with water. It writes much better with fountain pen ink than my Speedball nibs, and finer than my glass pen. It doesn't write for long because it lacks an ink reservoir outside the small hole between the tines, but I didn't expect it to.

Is it for real

First time I held it in my hand , it felt light, comfortable and rich. First dip and I was in love. An excellent product, smooth writer, I use it every day to write or sample an ink. Amazing functionality, great price point. Highly recommended

Iro-Utsushi dip pen

I'm so glad this pen was mentioned on a recent GP pencast, else I might never have noticed it. I have glass dip pens, which are pretty, but this pen writes far more consistently - like a regular fountain pen - and it will be perfect for using random inks for a quick note without having to ink up a pen.

Iro-Utsushi dip pen

Nice set up! It's the first black wood handle I have as all the others are plain wood. Fits my hand very well. And the price wasn't that bad either. A sure win.
