I like precision

I’ve been sharpening knives almost as long as I’ve been writing. Angles are pretty important, and maintaining that edge is just as important. It was a 20,000 grit diamond emulsion on a buffalo strop that brought my 30 year old waterman back to life after playing around with the alignment. In the process of looking for equipment a pen caught my eye. It was from a US distributor through Amazon and I bought it along with a black and blue ink from Noodlers brand. The pen is absolutely amazing to write with, but my paper wasn’t so great. This is the entrance down the rabbit hole called Goulet Pen Company. I watched so many videos, reviews, read comments like those here and settled on this Pilot 743. It’s extra fine and is very nice to write with. Paper, ink samples ( I got 16),

The packaging was very secure and arrived a day earlier than expected. I got my VP in Thursday and my Custom 743 Friday😁 Thank you Goulet Pen!

Wonderful. Writes so smooth, just like an 823 but with a converter.

And it writes like a fine point should, Japanese nib or not. I just wrote a ton with it using JHerbin Violet ink and it wrote so well.

Since it has a converter instead of a piston fill like the 823, it is easy to switch inks.

Beautiful color, superb nib

I had been wanting either this or the 823 for quite a while, leaning to the 743 for easier cleaning and the FA nib. I didn't know about the verdigris though and once I found out I had to have it! It looks amazing in person. The nib is nice and bouncy. I have a 912 FA and this is definitely less soft, but it still flexes a bit when slight pressure is applied. I enjoy this more for daily writing as it's easier to control the flex and its stock performance is more consistent despite not having an ebonite feed. It's wet enough to prevent any railroading or hard starts in the two weeks I've had it. It is a Pilot fine with no pressure and I've pushed it to match my Kaweco Sport BB. The bottle of ink it came with is excellent as well if blue is your color. I first tested with that and currently am using Iroshizuku syo-ro with no flow issues of any kind. Currently my most expensive pen but I couldn't be happier with my choice. It was worth every dime.

Excellent writing experience

LOVE this pen...

I don't know which I love more, the color, or the writing experience as they are both amazing. Verdigris is the only way to describe the color. It is blue and green at the same time, but neither at the same time. It is beautiful, and goes well with Private Reserve Blue Suede. The writing experience is truly amazing. I like my Japanese extra fine, and this one is smooth as silk and the perfect fine line to go with my tiny handwriting. As usual, my package, which I ordered to celebrate a promotion at work, was packaged with a slightly ridiculous amount of care. I love how Goulet Pens always makes every customer and every order feel like it was the most important thing they had to take care of that day. It keeps my coming back for more.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill this pen from an ink cartridge? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses proprietary Pilot ink cartridges, which are available in a wide range of colors.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
