The Special Edition Golden Lapis creates a perfect balance between timeless aesthetics and subtle sophistication. The Pelikan M200 Golden Lapis fountain pen combines a distinctive color tone with stylish elegance.

The golden lapis gemstone is a symbol of inner peace and emotional balance. It was once considered a gemstone for kings and was associated with strength, wisdom and protection from negative influences. The fascinating blue of the M200 Golden Lapis picks up the golden shimmer and enchants with a shimmering presence. At the same time, the velvet-matte transparent material composition reveals the inside, the piston mechanism. If the shimmering golden elements in the ink are shaken before filling, they give the writing ever-changing expressions of color.

The high-quality stainless steel nib, finished in gold, offers a smooth and precise writing experience. It is available in nib sizes EF, F, M, and B to cater to the individual preferences of every writer.

The Special Edition Golden Lapis is exclusively available as a piston fountain pen and promises the highest quality and a special writing experience. Every writing instrument is assembled by hand and carefully checked to meet the strictest quality standards.

Not Very Impressive

So, there's nothing really...wrong with this pen. It's pretty. It's just not impressive at all for the price. It's an M200, so it's small and very light. The nib is very plain and unadorned, which seems odd in an otherwise pretty pen.

It's a strange pen. It's well-made, pretty, and writes well, though with maybe a touch more feedback than I'd like. The piston mechanism works well. Ink capacity is acceptable. But it just...feels cheap when you hold it. For this $200 price point, I far prefer the Lamy 2000, which feels like it oozes quality. The M200 feels more like a disposable fountain pen.

Having said that, the body is rigid, with no flex. The gold accents are very nice. The screw-on cap removes with just half a turn, and it posts securely. Again, there's nothing technically wrong with it, it just seems overpriced for what it is.

The thing is, I bought this pen along with the TWSBI Mini piston filler. The TWSBI is less than half the price, but it just seems like a better pen. While the TWSBI is a smaller pen, it feels more solid and substantial. The writing feel and smoothness is very slightly better, too.

I'm so conflicted about this pen. It's a Pelikan, and I want to love it as much as I do my Pura...but I don't. It feels like a cheap knock-off of a Pelikan pen. It's not shoddily made, but it feels that way. I'm really weirded out by it.

Typical M200

It is, of course, a Pelikan, so it will meet all your expectations. A beautiful pen a must for every Pelikan collector. Mine is now my primary pen.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

Check out more info on these filling mechanisms including a video on how to fill each one on our blog.

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

For even more information about fountain pen cleaning, check out our Fountain Pen 101 video blog post.
