The Kaweco Supra fountain pen is the big brother of the Liliput and a quick-change artist. A connector piece transforms this pen from a cartridge-only pocket pen to a full-sized converter-accepting pen. The fountain pen's weight and length can be adjusted to meet the individual needs of its user. The minimalistic design is reminiscent of Bauhaus and Braun.

This fountain pen is made entirely out of brass. Brass will become tarnished when in use and develop an individual patina over time. The well-known ECO brass (brass manufactured by the Wieland Werke in Ulm) is lead-free.

It comes with a larger #6 stainless steel nib and an ink cartridge to get you started writing right away! The cap screws on to the back to post securely, and it accepts short standard international cartridges. Standard international converter is available separately. The pen comes packaged in a tin box.

Hefty EDC Pen

Love the look and feel of this pen in hand. Writes just as smooth and consistent as every Kaweco I have laid my hands on. I find myself holding this pen capped and enjoying the heft, even if I am not preparing to write with it

Brass is good

Excellent Pen.

The Brass Section

Beautiful. Looks antique when paired with the raw bronze clip. Smooth writing. The medium nib writes more like a fine in my opinion (or maybe my other mediums write like broads). Make no mistake, it's heavier than a lot of pens which is something to consider. I like it best in the "mini" configuration although the extended configuration, allows for storage of an extra ink cartridge.

beautiful, sturdy pen

Right of the box, this pen is beautiful & shiny; patina starts to develop pretty quick, so I'm not going to try to keep up with the polishing. Writes very smoothly with the medium nib. Got the clip (very classy) and was expecting to carry it in a breast pocket, like I usually do. But it is heavy in the long form, and has such a minimalist beauty when the extender & clip are left out; I think it's becoming my (only) bone fide, EDC pocket pen.

As suspected, holds two international short cartridges

I bought this to be an everyday pen after my TWSBI VAV700 and 580AL both suffered breakage of the caps even though they were carried in a pen case in my backpack. TWSBI has a lifetime warranty and great customer service and is sending new caps, but I wanted something a little more durable for travel. When looking at this pen. I was pretty sure based on dimensions that at full length it would allow for one short cartridge to be in use and a second to be stored in the pen in case the loaded cartridge ran out. When doing research on this pen no one highlighted this ability and for me this is makes this pen perfect for travel as this allows you to always carry a backup cartridge in the pen. I normally don't use cartridges, but for this pen, that may be my preferred choice. The medium #6 nib on this pen is smooth even on bad paper. The pen is on the slightly heavier side, but not as heavy as some reviewers make it out to be. I was little worried about possibly cross threading, but precision of the manufacturing is good, and this seems unlikely. Looking forward to using this pen and letting it patina over time. May seem a little expensive relative to other travel pens, but a broken pen is money down the drain. The #6 nib means it should be easily replaceable if you need to.

FAQs about Fountain Pens

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

How do I clean a fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

How often do I need to clean my fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors.

Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

My pen won’t write! What do I do? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

First things first... make sure you have ink in the pen! Be sure that the ink cartridge or converter is seated properly in the pen, and that you aren't out of ink.

We always recommend you give your pen a good cleaning first, using our Goulet Pen Flush, or a drop of dish soap in some water. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first.

If that still doesn't work, try priming the feed. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.

If it’s still not working after that, please reach out to us so we can help!
