Set in a beautiful 50ml glass ink bottle, Jacques Herbin Orange Soleil is the symbol of vital energy, opening up purity or even spirituality. Its glorious light and serene power illuminate the pages written thanks to its radiance. Orange Soleil is generous, iridescent, and invigorating, with beautiful saffron glows.

Established in Paris in 1670, the Maison HERBIN initially specialized in the sealing wax, fine stationery and ink trade, and imported shellac from India. Since this founding their aim has been to "Give body and color to our thoughts." The adventure of one of the oldest ink makers in the world began over three hundred years ago but its products have expanded into a complete universe of inks, writing instruments, stationery, and other goods for amateurs and connoisseurs of the lettering arts.

Love the color

Great Ink - Concerning "Sediment"

This is the perfect orange "dreamsicle" ink. It is vibrant, and saturates evenly. However, I immediately noticed a small amount of white "sediment" in the bottle. Over time (a week), the ink clouded up and I have sadly discarded it. I'm new to fountain pens, and not yet knowledgable about all the risks of bacteria and mold, etc. I read several blogs illustrating this as a common problem with this ink particularly. I hope to learn more and perhaps try it again when the issue is resolved.

Sunshine on paper

I'm a bit of a fountain pen novice--this is probably my fifth or sixth bottled ink. I couldn't wait to ink up my TWSBI 580, and I've been writing with it for about a week straight using a medium nib. I love the color, and even though it's very reminiscent of afternoon sunshine, it is still readable on the page. Ink flow is nice and wet, goes down freely with little feathering (even my notes jotted in the margins of copy paper haven't feathered terribly).

Perfect first bottle of ink

I have just recently started this hobby and my favorite color is orange. I have a Laban pen with an iridium nib and this ink flows beautifully. The color is exactly what I was looking for. The bottle feels good in the hand. The price is right and so is the color

Long overdue

The review of this ink has been long overdue for me, I did not intend to buy this ink but the fine people at Goulet sold it to me as a substitution for a item that was out of stock on their end. Painless and easy. I've written with this pen in my 1.5 mm stub Endura and with my dip pen, the Ink is a nice striking orange but still legible. Not much shading or sheen but I wasn't expect that, the ink is great for what it is. My Endura did have a few hard starts but that's an issue with the pen and not the ink, I felt fit to mention it anyways. Seeing as how the people at Goulet took care of me to replace an item that was sold out and how this ink has no reviews I owe it to the fine people at Goulet to leave my review of the ink.

FAQs about Bottled Ink

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink.

What is shading, sheening, or shimmering ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Shading - A common (and often desired) result of a fountain pen ink pooling in certain parts of a letter when writing, so that the color and saturation of the ink appears different within a single letter or word. This characteristic cannot be achieved with ballpoint or rollerball pens and is a very appealing aspect of fountain pen use for those particularly drawn to all the pretty ink colors.

Sheen - Characteristic of a fountain pen ink where when ink pools another color can be seen on top of the ink, especially when looked at in different light angles using certain paper types. There is no way to guarantee an ink will sheen, but using a larger nib on a pen will help obtain sheening results in your writing.

Shimmering - Fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in.

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size and shimmering ink. All the ink we sell is safe for use in fountain pens.

You can learn more in our blog: How to Write with Shimmering Ink.

My ink smells funny, is it safe to use? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Generally yes! Ink does not smell good- it usually has a chemical smell, along with other scents such as sulfur, rubber, chemicals or even paint. However, as long as you’re not seeing anything floating in the ink, it should be safe to use.

It’s cold and my ink froze; is it safe to use? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes, frozen ink will not hurt your pen (after it’s thawed of course!) The issue with ink freezing is primarily a concern because certain glass bottles could break as the water-based ink expands, and then you’d have a mess!

What is your return policy for bottled ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We do not accept returns for ink that has been used. Otherwise, we accept returns on unused ink products for up to 30 days from purchase. You can read all our Return Policies here.
