50ml Bottle

Part of Diamine’s Shimmertastic collection, this Blue Lightning turquoise fountain pen ink features added silver shimmer. Works best with broader nibs on high quality paper to really see the shine. Comes in a 50ml glass bottle.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens. We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging. You will also want to be diligent about cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.

Beautiful

The ink is beautiful. I put this in my broad-nib TWSBI eco. Perfect fit for that pen. The swab here doesn't do this ink justice. The shimmer isn't overpowering and it's a beautiful bright turquoise.

Gorgeous turquoise ink

I purchased this ink specifically for a set of cards that it will match nicely. I do admit that I have a soft spot for teal/turquoise shades and have quite a few. This ink appears quite a bit darker than the swab does on my monitor. On paper, it is fairly close to Waterman's Inspired Blue (formerly South Seas Blue) but with a nice dash of silver shimmer. It is more attractive in person than in the photos and is dark enough to be easily legible and not hard on the eyes. I find that this ink shades nicely and there is quite a bit of shimmer (just shake the bottle before filling.) Like other Diamine inks, it is well behaved and does not feather or smudge once dry. The flow is nice and not too dry, but also not overly wet. Overall, it is an ink that performs nicely, has a gorgeous color and a lovely amount of silver sparkle. It is a perfect match for my cards, though I have a feeling this will find its way into my pen for daily use as well.

My Nine year old figured it out before me

So I got this bottle of ink because I desperately wanted a shimmer ink for nostalgia reasons. I was disappointed when I put it in my Lamy Al-Star medium and it kept having hard starts and skipped continuously. My nine year old also has a FP (in fact they are now the only pens in the house) and she wanted to change her ink to the shimmer. I warned her about what would happen. But in true kid form she didnt care. To my complete suprise it wrote completely fine in her Lamy Al-star fine nib on plain notebook paper! With beautiful shading and just enough shimmer to make both of us squee like little girls. After she one upped me I quickly changed out the ink in my pen and asked her what she did to make it work because I was still having problems. She just scribbled on her page until the ink started to flow. Her fine writes better than my medium! I do not know what sorcery she did but both pens are working. It's a beautiful color although a bit scratchy on my rohdia pad. Over all I cant complain. It won't be a daily user like my DeAtramentis inks but it's fun and adds a little something extra. She seems to be enjoying it more than me so it wasn't money wasted.

Beautiful color, great shimmer!

I am in love with this ink! I was actually stunned by how pretty it was, and I used it on cheap stationary with no feathering or other problems. It was even nicer on good paper. I put it in my turquoise Pilot Metropolitan Retro Pop with a fine nib, and it's written great. No clogging. As soon as I tested the sample I knew I needed a bottle.

Pen Clogger

The Shimmer is very subtle leaving just a faded looking blue ink. Put it in my pen that has the wettest feed/nib and it still clogged.

FAQs about Bottled Ink

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink.

What is shading, sheening, or shimmering ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Shading - A common (and often desired) result of a fountain pen ink pooling in certain parts of a letter when writing, so that the color and saturation of the ink appears different within a single letter or word. This characteristic cannot be achieved with ballpoint or rollerball pens and is a very appealing aspect of fountain pen use for those particularly drawn to all the pretty ink colors.

Sheen - Characteristic of a fountain pen ink where when ink pools another color can be seen on top of the ink, especially when looked at in different light angles using certain paper types. There is no way to guarantee an ink will sheen, but using a larger nib on a pen will help obtain sheening results in your writing.

Shimmering - Fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in.

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size and shimmering ink. All the ink we sell is safe for use in fountain pens.

You can learn more in our blog: How to Write with Shimmering Ink.

My ink smells funny, is it safe to use? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Generally yes! Ink does not smell good- it usually has a chemical smell, along with other scents such as sulfur, rubber, chemicals or even paint. However, as long as you’re not seeing anything floating in the ink, it should be safe to use.

It’s cold and my ink froze; is it safe to use? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes, frozen ink will not hurt your pen (after it’s thawed of course!) The issue with ink freezing is primarily a concern because certain glass bottles could break as the water-based ink expands, and then you’d have a mess!

What is your return policy for bottled ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We do not accept returns for ink that has been used. Otherwise, we accept returns on unused ink products for up to 30 days from purchase. You can read all our Return Policies here.
