The Conklin Duragraph fountain pen is now offered with your choice of a reliable, smooth-writing German made JoWo #6 silver steel nib in extra-fine, fine, medium, broad, or 1.1mm stub, or the new JoWo Omniflex flexible silver steel nib for variation in line width.

Our note about the JoWo Omniflex nib: This flex nib will allow you to experience more bounce and softness than writing with conventional nibs. You can achieve some line variation with a little additional downward pressure, to a point. We recommend flexing the nib to about twice the line width that you would see without using any pressure. Please take care to avoid pressing too hard on the nib, as over-flexing could prevent the tines from returning fully to their original position and decrease or stop your ink flow.

The Duragraph draws its inspiration from the rich heritage of the Conklin brand, which was purchased and revived by Yafa in 2009. It is manufactured in Asia, assembled and distributed from Canoga Park, California, and pays tribute to its roots with a “Toledo, Ohio” engraving on its nib and barrel. The cap top is embellished with the Conklin Est. 1898 logo and the cap band are engraved with the famous Duragraph model script font with three Conklin Crescent logos on either side of the model name. The fountain pen comes with a converter and a cartridge.

In 1923, the Duragraph model was launched, and shortly afterwards was considered to be "the definitive" pen. The model was named by combining the words, durable and graph - Duragraph. Created to last as an heirloom to serve many generations, the Duragraph is offered with a lifetime guarantee. In honor of the Duragraph's 91st birthday, Conklin has introduced a new Duragraph collection that brings a fresh, modern style to a timeless oversize flat top design. Crafted from quality hand made resins, the Duragraph is substantial in size, yet not so large to be unwieldy in the hand.

The Duragraph offers the ideal choice for your individual handwriting style. The cap top mounted clip allows the pen to sit low in the pocket, making this model a more practical choice for everyday use. Each Conklin fine writing instrument is housed in a luxury gift presentation box lined with rich satin. It comes with a converter and also accepts short standard international cartridges. Ideal as a perfect gift for yourself or a loved one, this model is the right size for both men and women who use fine writing instruments in their daily professional lives.

Conklin pen

Like the pen. Haven’t used the nib enough to review.

It’s Okay

The pen is pretty, but the parts seem cheap. The converter that comes with it has a hard time screwing in and out and leaves plastic dust on the pen when unscrewed. The extra fine nib on this is so fine that you can’t really use many inks without them being extremely light. I have other extra fine pens that lay down more ink and work just fine, but this one struggles.

It's all in the nib.

A high quality resin pen, with an amazing nib, decently priced. The resin is beautiful to look at, and the patterns have a nice 3d depth to them. The fit and finish was very good. The cap seals nicely, and the pen can sit for a couple weeks and still pick up and write immediately. And oh, that Jowo nib. So smooth, with just a whisper of feedback. This is a pleasure to write with. I've tried both their Omni-Flex and a Medium nib, both with excellent results. I prefer the flexible nib for letter writing and the regular nib for every day scribbling. (It's more economical of ink.)The converter is nothing special, but I appreciate that it's threaded. Despite being a resin pen, I don't think this can be used as a drip pen as metal parts would touch the ink. The clip is pretty tight to use, and is more of a roll-stop for the pen. It's not designed for posting. It looks ridiculously long, and seats awkwardly. Luckily the pen is long enough it's not needed even with large hands. If you want a full sized, affordable, quality resin pen, with a stellar quality Jowo steel nib, this is it.

Can't Beat it For the Money

I'm kinda new to all this fountain pen stuff so when I got this pen I didn't know what to expect. It's going on two months that I have it and it's gone through two ink changes so far. I carefully cleaned and flushed it each time and let it air dry completely before gassing it up. Both times hardly a drop spilled. I just filled it with Monteverde jade noir ink and it's a perfect match for the forest green color of the pen. Finally, the pen has performed flawlessly. Never a leak or a skip to be had. If you're looking for a pen with great looks and performance and money is an issue look no further than the Conklin Duragraph.

Good looking pen that feels clumsy and inconsisten

Bought the Conkline medium nib and used with Reserve Ink. Ink flow goes from hard start to too much ink and feels too broad. Cleaned the feed and the nib multiple times no change. Replaced the nib with a fine and can't tell the difference from the medium. The pen itself feels awkward when writing with the cap on the back of the pen. Overall, Conklin has not be a good experience, especially for the price.

FAQs about Fountain Pens

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

How do I clean a fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the filling mechanism, but it mostly comes down to flushing it out with water, and sometimes a little bit of Pen Flush if the ink is really stuck.

It's a bit easier to show than to tell, so we've put together a few quick videos showing you the process:

How often do I need to clean my fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors.

Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.

My pen won’t write! What do I do? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

First things first... make sure you have ink in the pen! Be sure that the ink cartridge or converter is seated properly in the pen, and that you aren't out of ink.

We always recommend you give your pen a good cleaning first, using our Goulet Pen Flush, or a drop of dish soap in some water. New pens often have some machining oil residue left in the feed, so a good cleaning often does the trick first.

If that still doesn't work, try priming the feed. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.

If it’s still not working after that, please reach out to us so we can help!
