This lime green resin Magnum fountain pen is one of Diplomat’s most affordable offerings. The special no-slip lacquer gives the body a soft touch, and it has a black ergonomic grip section. It comes equipped with a smooth writing JoWo stainless steel nib, chrome trim, and fills via standard international cartridge/converter (both are included).

Note: The Diplomat Magnum is gradually transitioning from matte to polished nibs. What you receive may be different than what is pictured here.

Nice Pen but it Leaks

I like this pen so much that I have it attached to my daily planner. It writes smoothly and is easy to grip. I'm a lefty and it works well even in the wrong hand. However, it has started to leak frequently. I open the pen and begin to write only to realize my fingers are not inked up. It is too bad, I wish I knew how to make it stop leaking because I like the pen. I guess it will go into the drawer and I'll try one of my other pens.

Smooth as butter but...

I love these pens. They do seem a bit delicate as I dropped my pen and while it didn't hit the nib straight on, it was still enough to knock the nib off enough that it started to write very scratchy and the ink flow was affected. 100% my fault but there are no replacement nibs, so be aware you'll need to replace the entire pen.

Which I did! I bought the Lime Green which is a gorgeous green and a very nice sheen. It pairs perfectly color wise with Private Reserve Spearmint. My favorite ink!

Diplomant Magnum

Got the pen with the fine nib and used the blue ink supplied. Pen writes nicely and I like the blue ink.
Concerns: The cap is very hard to snap off.... almost thought I would break it. Also the nib unscrewed very tight, again I thought it would break. Both seemed to have loosened up, But was concerning.

Great features

This is the second Diplomat Magnum pen I've purchased from Goulet and I really love it. I prefer the medium nib as it writes smoother than the fine. The pen is narrow, but is still comfortable. I like the "window" that lets me know when ink is low. I also like that an extra cartridge can be stored in the pen in case I run out of ink while I'm "on the go". Great product.

Its okay...

I was excited to buy this one after listening to the Goulet PenCast. For a $24 pen, this one kinda stinks. The nib doesn't write very well and has to be held at a very precise angle that is very wet. I used this one with the free Private Reserve Ink from the promo (I got DC Electric Blue and it is great) but I probably wont waste the ink in this pen. The other downside is that it weighs almost nothing. The pen cannot write at all under its own weight which is very disappointing for a German pen. Would definitely recommend LAMY Safari over this one at this price point. It does, however, come with a nice-sized Piston converter that pulls in the least air I have seen in most pens.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
