Pale, dynamic, and dry

COLOR: This is a tri-tone ink characterized by green, purple, and cool grey. If you look closely (or if you use a broad nib), you will see all three colors. As the Goulet swatches imply, the color differs with the type of paper, more so than most other inks.FLOW: This was a dry ink and would likely do best in a Pilot medium (or similar) or broader.SPECIAL QUALITIES: Sailor is known for its multi-dimensional inks. This is no exception. On 52g Tomoe River Paper, the more it pools, the more green will appear, especially around the edges of lines or on the outer rim of ink drops. Unlike normal shading, which is a variation in saturation of color often making the redundant parts of letters look darker, this ink "shades" by revealing different colors due to ink pooling along those segments of letters. This effect is fairly dramatic. Dries at a normal rate.READABILITY: Lower than most inks. To my eyes, its degree of shading is distracting and makes it harder to read in fine tip.

Beautiful, but...

This is a gorgeous color. I love the shading inks by sailor, but it's not good for journaling, for me. My vision isnt terrible, but not the best. It was very hard to reread my writing. I look forward to using it in art, however.

Beautiful shading ink!

I love the Sailor Yurameku inks. I love the flow, the shading, and how complex it is depending on what paper you use. I highly recommend this ink, even in a Fine nib.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.

What does it mean if an ink has shading or sheen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Shading is a common (and often desired) result of a fountain pen ink pooling in certain parts of a letter when writing, so that the color and saturation of the ink appears different within a single letter or word. This characteristic cannot be achieved with ballpoint or rollerball pens and is a very appealing aspect of fountain pen use for those particularly drawn to all the pretty ink colors.

Sheen is a characteristic of a fountain pen ink where, when ink pools, another color can be seen on top of the ink. It is more pronounced when looked at in different light angles using certain paper types. There is no way to guarantee an ink will sheen, but using a larger nib on a pen may help obtain better sheening results in your writing.
