Nice bright red!

This ink sheens like crazy! If you lay on the straight ink heavily it goes almost completely gold in some angles after drying. It is a pink-based red so if you water it down it turns hot pink and has a slight sheen but shades a lot. I wanted a bright red to mix with Yodakito brighten it up a little (it was ok but not quite what I was hoping for) and ended up buying a full bottle because I liked this color so much on its own. Recommended for people who like lots of sheen and/or bright pinky reds.

A Great Red

Speaking as someone very picky about red inks, this Hearth Red is awesome. It's bright without being offensive, verges on coral in color making it unique, flows well (I used it in a pen with an XF nib) and is consistently well-behaved. Shikiori irori I hope will be around for a long while because it's taking up permanent residence in my stock of must-have inks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

Check out our blog post on How to Fill a Fountain Pen from an Ink Sample Vial, or watch the video here:

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
