An amazing blue

It’s either tied for my favorite blue or it’s a close second.

Searching for the perfect blue

Good ink but I want one that looks just like Baystate but isnt so stainy and unmixable with other inks. It is a very strong deep ink but too dark for me.

Another excellent Private Reserve ink

As Brian says, PR inks are rich and vibrant, highly saturated and wet. Because they are so saturated, shading is low to moderate. I do not notice any sheen in my scripts. What I love about these inks is the boldness of the colors. They seem to make the writing pop. They have an elegant but exuberant gravitas. I am writing prescriptions for sick patients. The ink must be taken seriously. I discovered the PR brand by accident. A package of DC Supershow blue appeared in my drawer, I don't know how. I loaded it into my Conway-Stewart Doctor's Pen with a gorgeous gold broad nib. This ink blows me away. On my paper, it is a deep navy, highly saturated and wet, less purple than Brian's photo as it appears on my computer. Comparing it to Monteverde's version of DC Supershow, it appears darker and more saturated. My writing sample includes a few lines of Diamine's Sapphire Blue, a beauty in its own right.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

Check out our blog post on How to Fill a Fountain Pen from an Ink Sample Vial, or watch the video here:

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
