True Sepia ink?

I got thisas an ink sample after much thought. Many reviews of the ink complain if it drying out more easily & being a little finicky. However using it in the Noodler's Boston safety pen has made the ink enjoyable to write & draw with. When used in wet writing pen it look not-black so I've put a drop or 2 of water in & it feels like to me a genuine sepia ink.

A solid and interesting ink

This ink goes on reddish brown, but quickly dries to a grey-brown colour. It's quite dark, but not as easy to mistake for black as some of the other very dark Noodler's inks, like El Lawrence. It's not prone to feathering, although it did spread out a bit when I tested it on inkjet paper. The dry time isn't bad for a Noodler's permanent ink - in my experience, these usually take a long time to dry. It is definitely on the wetter side. In a flex pen, it is almost too wet to get much shading. I really like the colour of this ink. Few other browns are this greyish; most have red, purple, or yellow undertones, but I would call this a very neutral sort of brown. The story behind it is interesting as well. I hope the full-size bottles come back in stock, as I'll probably purchase one when they do.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
