3oz (90ml) glass bottle of Noodler's Baystate Blue fountain pen ink. Noodler's inks are handcrafted, so there may be slight color variations from batch to batch.

The Noodler's Baystate inks are slightly different formulas than conventional fountain pen inks. They are designed to be more vibrant than other inks and have a slightly basic pH-level, and as a result they are prone to staining and should not be mixed with other non-Baystate inks. If staining should occur, a solution of 10% household bleach and 90% distilled water should help. If you have any particularly rare or valuable pens, you may want to avoid using Baystate inks in them.

My Daily Ink

Morning Pages (Re: Julia Cameron’sTheArtists Way book)
Most used ink. Bright and dense yet flows well, dries well and stays. I don't mind that it stains. It is rich.

Noodler's Baystate Blue

Beautiful deep color. Works great with my pilot Metropolitan fin nib. Dries fast and quite resistant to water.

Have used with one medium nib Jinhao X750. It seemed to feed really wet and paper had some feathering (Rhodia), also some ghosting with the medium nib. I really like the Blue!

No Fear!

Overall, Baystate Blue is a fantastic ink with SOME caveats. I heard the horror stories, too, but I'll try almost anything at least once. I selected my Charcoal Lamy Safari (NOT the Vista!), a well used converter, put my new 1.5mm stub nib on the pen, drew ink through the nib into the converter from a VERY full bottle of ink, wiped off excess ink from the grip section of the pen, and started to write. The nib and ink complemented each other very well on the cheap paper we use at the office. The color is one of the richest most vibrant blues I've ever used. It maintains its color after drying, and appears to be fairly light resistant, and nearly waterproof. I found the ink to be relatively wet, with a little longer drying time required to avoid smudging the ink when you write on the next line below.
After exhausting the ink in the converter, I gave the pen a good rinse, and everything rinsed, or wiped, clean including the sink. The only thing that retained the blue hue was the inside of the converter. I'm going to have to try a regular nib next, because that blue is too awesome to ignore! And don't wear your favorite white shirt while writing with this, or any other, fountain pen ink.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink. You can also refill an empty ink cartridge from bottled ink using an ink syringe.
