Introducing the new Monteverde MP1, the first piston fountain pen in the Monteverde collection, where innovation, elegance, and advanced technology converge in a meticulously crafted design. Released as part of Monteverde's 25th-anniversary celebration, the MP1 represents a significant leap forward in the piston-fill fountain pen category, combining luxury with satisfying performance.

One of the standout features of the Monteverde MP1 is its grip section and the radiant, crystal-clear barrel, which are crafted as a single transparent piece. This one-piece construction not only enhances the pen's durability and sleek aesthetic but also provides a smooth, uninterrupted surface that feels natural and comfortable in the hand. The continuous design ensures a perfect balance and a secure grip, making the pen exceptionally comfortable during extended writing sessions.

The pen's design is further distinguished by its durable anodized aluminum cap in black, adorned with finely etched lines that add visual appeal. The anodized blind cap, equipped with a lock-in piston mechanism, ensures that the piston remains in place, preventing accidental twisting or ink spills, adding to the pen's overall reliability and functionality.

At the core of the Monteverde MP1 is a finely crafted #6 premium German-made JoWo nib, renowned for its precision and silky smooth writing experience. The black steel nibs are offered in six distinctive point sizes: extra-fine, fine, medium, broad, 1.1mm stub, and finally the Omniflex flexible steel nib for variation in line width.

Paired with an expertly designed plasma-treated feed system, the pen delivers consistent, reliable ink flow, ensuring rich and even lines without skipping or blotting, regardless of your writing speed or style.

The pen features an integrated piston-filling mechanism that allows for effortless ink refilling directly from an ink bottle, eliminating the need for cartridges and making the pen eco-friendly. The large 2ml ink reservoir, made of polycarbonate resin, ensures ample ink capacity, reducing the need for frequent refilling and maing it perfect for extensive writing sessions.

Dark and sophisticated, the Black Noir MP1 offers a deep, rich black that conveys timeless elegance. The matte finish softens the black, giving it a smooth and subtle texture, while the gunmetal trim enhances the pen's modern and luxurious aesthetic.

The Monteverde MP1 pen is beautifully packaged within a sleek, minimalist gift box, perfect for the discerning individual who appreciates both elegance and functionality. Assembled at the Monteverde headquarters in California, the MP1 adheres to the highest standards of production and quality control, a testament to the brand's 25-year legacy of precise craftsmanship.

With its lightweight yet durable construction, consistent ink flow, and elegant design, the Monteverde MP1 is a must-have for writing enthusiasts and pen collectors alike, offering a significant edge in features and value compared to its competitors. The Monteverde MP1 is an excellent choice for those seeking a professionally advanced piston-fill fountain pen that embodies reliability, durability, and user-friendly design.

Our note about the JoWo Omniflex nib: This flex nib will allow you to experience more bounce and softness than writing with conventional nibs. You can achieve some line variation with a little additional downward pressure, to a point. We recommend flexing the nib to about twice the line width that you would see without using any pressure. Please take care to avoid pressing too hard on the nib, as over-flexing could prevent the tines from returning fully to their original position and decrease or stop your ink flow.

Good pen, excellent customer service

I found the pen to feel great in the hand with a soft feel to it's steel nib. I filled it with Monteverde Yosemite Green and noticed a small leak. Fearing the worst, I contacted Goulet Pens and Brian was super helpful with suggestions and it seems that the issue was just the feed not being placed in correctly. I haven't reinked the pen yet, but I'm sure Brian will give me more info if needed. Now the pen itself apparently can't be disassembled beyond the nib and feed, so keep that in mind if you simply must be able to completely find tune your pens.

LOVE this pen!

I love a flex nib, so I got this pen with the black Omniflex nib, and it's perfect! This MP1 pen looks great, feels well-balanced in the hand, and has a cap that creates an airtight vacuum, so the nib does not dry out or leak. The piston fill mechanism works smoothly, feels like it's made with substantial, finely-tuned, high-quality parts, and it locks, preventing accidents. Some piston-fill pens have mechanisms that feel fragile; this is not one of those; this one is solid high-quality.

The Omniflex nib is a joy to write with, smooth as glass and writing wet enough to really, really show off a sheening ink on good smooth paper. I also bought the Goulet #6 Steel Flex EF nib, because I like writing with an extra fine nib... the finer the better, and that can be hard to find in a flex nib. Huge fan of both nibs in this pen!!! I think I might have to get a second MP1, so I can have both nibs on piston-fill pens all the time! How many piston-fill pens are there that take a #6 nib and can be purchased for around 50 bucks? I'm giving pens from Goulet to everyone for Christmas this year!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill a fountain pen with ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It depends on the pen's filling mechanism, which you can find in the Technical Specs section above.

Here's a quick definition of the most common filling mechanisms:

  • Cartridge - A small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write! Check out our quick guide here.
  • Converter - A detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter. Here's a video for how to fill a cartridge/converter pen using a LAMY pen as an example.
  • Eyedropper - A pen that utilizes the entire barrel as a reservoir for ink. Ink is directly filled into the barrel, allowing for a high ink capacity. Here's a video on how to do it!
  • Piston - A type of filling system that uses a retracting plunger inside a sealed tube to draw ink into a pen. They are typically either twist or push-operated. These pens cannot accept cartridges or a converter, and only fill from bottled ink.
  • Vacuum - A push-style piston that uses pressure to fill the large pen body with ink. They seal the ink chamber when closed, making it ideal for flying without risk of leaking. Check out our video on how to use a vac filler here.

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
