Lamy Topaz

Wonderful and exciting because it is as rich and beautiful as its name.

Dip & Flex Nib JOY

Initially, I purchased the Lamy Topaz simply for the color. I thought the warm reddish-brown would look lovely on my ever-so-slightly cream-colored paper (it does!). My initial test was with my glass dip pen and I loved how the color looked and how the ink behaved with that pen. Then, I tried it with my Brause steno nib and was thrilled with how the fine line rich warm brown-black color contrasted with the thicker lines of warm reddish-brown color. I wanted to keep writing because of that color contrast! In short - it's a great color and it really presents especially well when you have varying line thicknesses in your writing. I will be getting a full bottle. Note: I didn't test water resistance nor shading so low is a guess. I selected medium for wetness based solely on the fact that it didn't run off my nibs. It was less wet than Colorverse, for example, which I can't really use well with a glass dip because it's too wet (at least for my pen). As for dry time - I was on Moleskin paper and it tends to absorb the ink a bit more than Tomoe River & Rhodia so dry time was pretty quick on that paper.

Beautiful under-the-radar ink

I don't hear much about this ink shade, but tried it on a whim and love it. It's part of the Crystal series so it's a bit wetter than the standard line. The color is rich and it's well behaved. Time to order a full bottle!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

Check out our blog post on How to Fill a Fountain Pen from an Ink Sample Vial, or watch the video here:

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
