A great deal, doesn't post well though!

I often buy these inexpensive pens when they are on sale and are rarely disappointed, given the price. I like the point and the way the ink flows but it's annoying that the cap doesn't stay on the pen. Still, for the price, I'll live with it. So many pens, so little time!

I know they are good pens but it will be a wgile until I ink them up and use them,I will review them then.Possibly months away. Okay.

Jinhao X 450 Fountain Pen

Exceptional. The pen is sturdy, but without excess weight in the composition of the pen. Even though it is sturdy and has an attractive finish, it is not heavy in the hand, but in fact is sturdy without excess weight. The nib is a real asset, and I found that the weight of the pen was actually a benefit, since it helps to make the actual writing clear and pleasant to use. The catch for the pen cap is sturdy without being difficult to remove for writing. The finish is sturdy but smooth, and is very pleasant to use.

Ok for the price

When I bought this, I wasn't sure what to expect. Pretty much all the reviews said it was a great pen, but I'd disagree for the most part. I've been daily driving this pen for about 3 weeks now and these are my thoughts:1. It came with one of those really annoying stickers that won't come off no matter what you do and just tears. It left a sticky residue, but a little rubbing alcohol and some scrubbing with a paper towel got rid of most of it. This isn't too big a deal, but it was a little off-putting when you're super excited that your order just arrived. 2. The cap does NOT POST, even though it is advertised as "postable" in the technical specs. This is a huge bummer, and I'm taking off a whole star for that.3. I've had a few problems with the nib. First, it just doesn't feel nice at all. It feels just like a cheap nib and is not very pleasant to write with. Also, it has a lot of nib creep no matter what ink I use. I've tried Noodler's Black, Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black, and Private Reserve Electric DC Blue. Maybe other might have better luck with nib creep. However, most of this can be fixed with a Goulet Nib, but that costs more than the pen itself. All in all, I think I got what I paid for. It looks good and has a nice weight, but using it is unpleasant. While most of my gripes can be fixed with a Goulet nib, you can't change the fact that the cap doesn't post. If I could re-do this, I would save my money and buy a Platinum Preppy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use this pen with ink cartridges? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A cartridge is small, disposable, sealed plastic reservoir that holds fountain pen ink. These come pre-filled with ink, and typically you just push to insert them into place and you'll be ready to write!

This pen uses standard international ink cartridges, a common size which is available in many colors from various brands.

You can learn more about how to actually install an ink cartridge on our blog, or in this video tutorial:

How do I use a converter? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

A converter goes in the place of where the ink cartridge would normally go. From there, you can fill your fountain pen from bottled ink.

A converter is a detachable and refillable ink reservoir that allows you to use bottled ink in a cartridge-accepting pen. Typically you will install the converter into the grip section, dip the nib/feed into the ink, and twist or pull the converter knob to draw ink into the converter.

We have a great video showing how to use a converter here:

How do I clean this fountain pen? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

It mostly comes down to flushing out the pen with water, and sometimes a little bit of pen flush if the ink is really stuck.

We put together a blog post with step-by-step instructions, or you can watch the video here:

We recommend a good cleaning every 2 weeks, and any time you change ink colors. Water will usually do the trick, but we recommend you use our Goulet Pen Flush if the ink has been left in the pen for a while and could have dried up, or when you’re switching ink colors.
