Set in a beautiful 50ml glass ink bottle, Jacques Herbin Rouge d'Orient is at the same time a dark and vibrant shade, and has a royal intensity. The color red is the symbol of power in the ancient past, happiness in China, or passion today.

Established in Paris in 1670, the Maison HERBIN initially specialized in the sealing wax, fine stationery and ink trade, and imported shellac from India. Since this founding their aim has been to "Give body and color to our thoughts." The adventure of one of the oldest ink makers in the world began over three hundred years ago but its products have expanded into a complete universe of inks, writing instruments, stationery, and other goods for amateurs and connoisseurs of the lettering arts.

Rich blue-based red

This Rouge d'Orient ink has quickly become my 'go-to' red. It's only real competitor, for me, is Diamine's Oxblood. Rouge d'Orient is smooth, and dries quickly, feathers only slightly. It works in a range of fountain pens across multiple nib sizes.

Great ink

I really enjoy the ink, it is a nice flat red. Writes smoothly out of my Pilot Metro. and Platinum Prefounte. I use it writing notes in school and also have written a few letters to pen-pals. I got it with the Surprise Me sample pack, going to have to buy a bottle sometime soon!

Perfect shade of red

This ink writes smoothly and deeply. The ink also doesn't shade too much, which is preferable for journaling.

Gorgeous red!

This is a smooth, medium dark red ink. Works very well in my Opus 88 Omar. Beautiful and eyecatching!

Very nice ink!

I bought this for use in my Christmas cards this year and just love it. Works well in the Jinhao 159 with a medium nib I am using.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink. You can also refill an empty ink cartridge from bottled ink using an ink syringe.
