Set in a beautiful 50ml glass ink bottle, Jacques Herbin Bleu Austral, translated as Southern Blue, evokes the turquoise reflections of the South Seas. It is a radiating turquoise blue in a deep, intense, and haunting tone.

Established in Paris in 1670, the Maison HERBIN initially specialized in the sealing wax, fine stationery and ink trade, and imported shellac from India. Since this founding their aim has been to "Give body and color to our thoughts." The adventure of one of the oldest ink makers in the world began over three hundred years ago but its products have expanded into a complete universe of inks, writing instruments, stationery, and other goods for amateurs and connoisseurs of the lettering arts.

My Go-to Ink for All Occasions

The rich color is what calls to you first, but the silky smooth delivery on the page (with my Sailor 1911L, medium nib) is what seals the deal for me. A genuinely beautiful ink. I keep waiting for Jacques Herbin to make it in standard cartridges (it is available in long standard, but not the shorter type that would fit the Sailor). Until they do, I'll continue to fill my own cartridges from the bottled ink.

Beautiful Teal Ink

This is one of my everyday ink colors. I fell in love with J Herbin's Emerald of Chivor, but was concerned it might clog my pen. This ink is the perfect alternative, as the color is so very close. It writes beautifully -- very smooth in my Pilot Custom 74 .

Emerald of Chivor without the Glitz

This is a very wet dark teal ink--a lovely color--that closely resembles Emerald of Chivor, but without the shimmer. This should be a reliable, free-flowing ink in any pen. The color is suitable for professional use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pens can accept this ink? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Any of these fountain pens will work with bottled ink. Typically, as long as the pen can be filled with a converter, has a built-in filling mechanism like a piston, or can be eyedropper-filled, it can accept bottled ink. You can also refill an empty ink cartridge from bottled ink using an ink syringe.
