Can't go wrong

Trying this in the TUZU with M nib. Diamine is a solid ink choice and plays nicely with most of my pens, high and low end.

Too pale for my needs

There is nothing wrong with this ink, I just found it too pale for my needs. I take notes with my fountain pens, and I found that Diamine Silver Fox is too pale and doesn't stand out enough. I ended up mixing it in equal parts with Diamine Graphite, and I like the mix better, maybe similar to Diamine Grey.

Ordinary Gray

I used this in a Pilot Metropolitan and it looked just like pencil lead. It's certainly not an everyday ink in that pen, but I'd like to give it a shot in a wetter nib and see how it does.

Solid Silver

Really like this color. A good middle grey. Good on white and lighter colored paper. Not shiny at all so don't think it will be visible on dark paper. Flowed well in my Noodler's Ahab (when the pen felt like working. Ahab people know what I am talking about.)

Great Lighter Gray Ink

I had to buy a sample of Silver Fox after getting a sample of Frankincense. I love gray ink and use Lexington Gray regularly. Silver Fox is perfectly behaved in my TWSBI Eco 1.1 mm pen. Nicely wet, flowed very well. Tested on Clairefontaine spiral notebook, it was lighter than Frankincense and Lexington Gray (which were very close). I've found Diamine inks to be wonderful inks. I did not test this for water resistance, but the review on the Goulet Blog showed it to be medium resistant. Frankincense to be more resistant, and of course Lexington Gray is totally water resistant. Some shading. All in all a great ink if you are looking for a gray ink that is somewhat lighter than others. In some very wet pens I've wanted a lighter gray than Lexington, but I will probably dilute Lexington Gray when I need that. I do recommend this ink, it performs very well and is lovely.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

Check out our blog post on How to Fill a Fountain Pen from an Ink Sample Vial, or watch the video here:

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
