Too Light to Be Legible

I was searching for a bright spring green, something to resemble new shoots in April. Unfortunately this ink is too light to be consistently legible, even when using a broad nib. I settled instead on Diamine's Apple Glory, which is similar though a bit darker and also a touch bluer that Diamine's Kelly Green.

Bright, lovely green

I've been looking for the right green ink for some time--one that wasn't too dark, nor too light, nor too neon, that would work well in either vintage or modern pens. I think this green might be the winner! Diamine Kelly Green offers a nice, cheerful, bright tone that's not hard to read, nor is it too dark. See my comparison image with Iroshizuku Chiku-Rin and Montblanc Irish Green; for me the Chiku-Rin is a little too light, with hints of brown, while the Irish Green is too blue- or black-green. The ink doesn't offer much in the way of shading when dry, and it flows very well. On regular computer paper, the ink bleeds through/shows through a little bit in places where I wrote more heavily than others. Still, given what I was looking for, I like this color a lot.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

Check out our blog post on How to Fill a Fountain Pen from an Ink Sample Vial, or watch the video here:

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
