2ml sample of Diamine Gold Star fountain pen ink, in a labeled plastic vial.

Initially launched as part of the 2019 Diamine InkVent calendar and now a part of the regular Diamine Blue Edition collection, this amber yellow fountain pen ink features added gold shimmer. Works best with broader nibs on high quality paper to really see the shine.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens. We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging. You will also want to be diligent about cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.

Diamine Gold Star ink

Bought it as a sample for my husband. Had great sparkle but basically much too light for him in his journal writing.

I was disappointed in the amount of ink in the samples, not quite deep enough for the fountain pen to soak up enough.

Beautiful, But a Little Light

The golden yellow colour is very pretty and there is a nice, golden sheen; sort of a gentle shimmer. The only trouble is that it is a little light. I wrote a letter on Tomoe River paper and it was readable. It was a little less so on the Clairfountaine Envelope. I am a little worried about the address being so faint. I used my Pilot Parallel, which writes very wet, so that did help, over all. It's a lovely ink, but not the most practical.

Gold star for Gold Star

This ink has such a great shimmer; it makes a great 'specialty' decorative ink. The shimmer settles to the bottom when left alone, but swirl it a bit and the flakes are suspended again in no time. It would look great in a demonstrator!

Pretty, But Illegible

Purchased Diamine Gold Star as a sample, thinking it might be a candidate for use in one of my yellow-colored pens. Alas, it is lovely, but light. Too light to be used for letter writing or similar uses. It is not legible. Tested in a Lamy Safari with a fine nib on both Rhodia and Clairfontaine papers as well as copy bond.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is shimmering ink safe to use in fountain pens? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

Yes! Shimmering ink (a fountain pen ink that has small particles of glitter mixed in) is a great way to add some flare to your writing. We have found that a larger nib will showcase more shimmering particles while writing, but you can use any nib size with shimmering ink. While it is safe to use in fountain pens, it may require a little extra maintenance.

Due to the amount of particulate in this ink used to achieve the sparking look, you may experience restricted ink flow in some of your pens, especially with finer nibs.

We recommend shaking the ink thoroughly before filling, and gently rolling the pen in your hands often to keep the shimmer effect consistent. This will also help prevent clogging.

You will also want to be diligent about regularly cleaning and maintaining your pen when using this ink.

How do I fill my fountain pen from an ink sample vial? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

The technique depends on the fountain pen's filling mechanism.

How much writing can I really do with 2ml? 8EDA1617-F73A-4DAF-8245-6D2BF4ABEB7B

We find that usually you can get 2 good fills for a typical converter with our ink samples, or one good fill with a large capacity piston-filling pen.

How much writing you can do depends on you more than anything else. It mostly depends on how big or small you write, and the nib size you’re using. We recommend experimenting with different nib sizes to find what works best for you.
