This is serious ink, with heavy presence and a color you can practically hear buzzing on the page. It comes in a bottle that looks businesslike, but the ink itself is all whimsy. Recommended for anyone looking for a break from the status quo.

I am really enjoying the De Atramentis Purple Violet. I use this ink for grading student papers, so depending on the paper the student uses, the ink has some bleed and/or feathering. Not a big issue. The color is deep and vibrant--very legible and clearly purple (i.e. not so dark it's almost black).

I bought a sample of this ink along with several others a few weeks ago. The sample was labeled De Atramentis Magenta Violet and turned out to be a marvelously shading color when used in a stub pen. It was a true magenta with wonderful pinkiness. when I received the full-sized bottle, it was labeled Purple Violet and had none of the magenta or pink coloring, though it is not a bad purple. It's simply not the same color as the sample, despite the disclaimer that some bottles may be labeled 'purple violet' in the current ink description. I tried a side-by-side smear test when I saw that disclaimer, thinking the different nib size might be at fault - nope. Purple Violet is definitely more purple than Magenta Violet. Magenta Violet, in the sample I received, is closer to Dianthus judgig by the online images. I went back and read the original review blog post and saw that as long as two years ago customers were reporting the same discrepancy. I'm very disappointed.
